online revision resources for GCSE

Have been doing some research into online revision resources to help my DD structure her revision time better, but not sure which one to go for. Have heard good things about Save My Exams but this requires payment for full access - is anyone who has tried it able to tell me whether it's worth it? Unsure as to whether the money would be better spent on a tutor.

Would be great to hear recommendations on resources that your DC found helpful to aid their GCSE revision, free or otherwise!

Hi Sue, paid for this for my son and he loved it. A lot cheaper than a tutor and less direction, but all the resources are there in one place so he found it really useful. He used for both GCSEs and A Levels.

I've seen good things written here about Tassimo (sp?) for Science.

Personally I worry about too much online revision.
My concerns are
a) no visible output
b) other online distractions
= revision not actually happening.

Revision where there is an output

  • practice paper done
  • revision card / mind map written / rewritten
  • tested by parent
seems better to me.

(But I'm not a great fan of online in general, plus DD1 needed 1-1 help with revision, so maybe my views are niche).

See where you're coming from, but my son did find that Save My Exams gave him a bit of a plan to follow which helped him structure his notes.

Maybe a mixture of the two - online resources and one to one practice/testing - is the sweet spot!

If you're looking for maths help - I can't recommend Corbett Maths or Maths Genie enough.

Both have loads of practise papers organised by topic, along with videos and answers. Both completely free.

Lots of our students use them.

I've posted this on the main GCSE thread, but just in case...

Has anyone found an effective resource for practising French verb conjugations? Ideally it would flash up 'I have' or 'You (s) will drink' or 'We were running' and student has to type in the French.

Not online, but the book '501 French verbs'. Very popular when I was at school...
