Please advise on differences between these two schools , is City worth travelling to, if SHHS is a five minute walk? How are the two new heads? New prep head in one and senior head in the other I believe. Thank you!!!

My first thought was that living a walking distance to great school tramps many considerations.
However - it all depends.

If you are thinking of starting at 7+ - then i’d say distance would sway me. And at Y6 - you can re-consider and take 11+.
If your daughter is taking 11+ - then th choice can be different.

I don’t think your questions has one ‘right’ answer that fits all. So much depends on your kid, on what she is like, and what she wants.

But, generally speaking - I think a bright, driven, curios kid can and would do well in most good schools. And their achievements would, largely, depend on their own efforts.
Both SHHS and City are great schools. You won’t go wrong with either of them.

Hi. DD has just started in SHHS in Yr7 and I can really recommend it so far. The teachers are consistently good and friendly and standards are high, without being pressured. The extra-curricular offering is broad - lots of sports which are taken seriously (netball teams A-E in Yr7), but also open sports for those who don't make it into squads.

I love the head. She's sensible, approachable and keen to maintain a good balance between high academic standards, but without it all being about the 'elite'. Academic standards are high - whilst CLSG is marginally higher in the league tables, there's really not much between them. When I toured, both schools seemed similar in terms of atmosphere and expectations - bluestocking and ambitious and not at all 'precious'. But the new build at SHHS is gorgeous - the feeling of light is energising and the food excellent.

Ultimately, it's up to you and your DD which they prefer, but there is so much to be said for a local school. It's much easier to participate in before/after school activities with a 5 min walk than a 45 min tube journey - and that's even before you take into account morning rush hour. Ditto for homework, and of course weekend socialising is much easier when they're older. DD is off to the UCS disco tonight - there's a feeling of community around a local school which is so good for teen mental health.

Thank you! And any thoughts on the new head at CLSG prep? I heard the old one was not good. What changes has she made so far ? I heard she brought back some (not too much) homework after the old head stopped homework? And some new after school provisions? Any detail would be great
