Can anyone confirm whether a grade 4 in next years Maths and English GCSEs will still be classed as a pass and therefore not require a resit at college ? Thanks

Yes. The DfE announced in about March that a 4 was now a ‘standard pass’ and they would never ask 4s to resit in Y12 (colleges may have their own rules). 5 is now called a strong pass.

Thank you . My DS Maths teacher has told them all it’s going to be a grade 5 next year , maybe she’s not aware of the changes in March by DofE. Just keeping everything crossed for a grade 4 in Maths .

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of teachers missed the announcement, they made it deliberately the day before Article 50 was triggered to try to bury it...

We've been advised in our HE establishment that we will continue to count a grade 4 as a pass for the compulsory English and Maths. I wonder if the teacher's comment was about the school league tables? I don't know what counts for them.

It’s equival to a low C. Many colleges are asking for a 5 to do a levels near me but a 4 is a pass

Thanks for your replies , have checked with the college DS wants to go to and they are happy with grade 4’s. He’s doing btec not A levels hopefully.
