Just wondered if anyone had any experience of either of these schools, good or bad!

Thanks.

Portico that was on their academic results this year. Sunday Times list. I don't have a link as on my phone.

I was a contemporary of monkey42 and remember an entirely different teacher behaving inappropriately in class to O level girls, and another one who "had to" get married to a sixth form girl.
I was partly on fees and partly bursary but nobody seemed to really notice. It was at the time much too sports oriented for me, but it was the only mixed selective school near us (from the south area not the north hence not Bablake).

Thanks for all your further replies. Not sure what we'll do for DS and still grappling with the idea of him being secondary school age anyway!

We sent our DD to KHVIII last year (now Y8) and we're really happy. We also visited Bablake and to be honest there's not much between the two. We chose KHVIII because it felt more 'real', in that it's a multicultural community of kids of loads of different backgrounds.

Results are really good (way better than Princethorpe) and train connection makes everything so much easier. The pastoral care there has also been great.

We also went round some of the Grammars and to be honest I was pretty disappointed. As mentioned above, we're getting top education for not that much!

@geigephil84 thank you so much for your reply. I've had such mixed feelings about what to do for the best, I really needed to hear something positive about KHVIII for a change! Am very pleased for you that your DD is happy there, that's all I want for my DC.

Bablake did used to have the benefit of the Old Boys Club...Grin

Walpurg what do you mean? Is there no old wheats any more? Rest assured plenty of KHVIii pupils were there of a Friday night after badminton and swimming at the sports centre, not just those from bablake! Strangely when I moved to London a new neighbour knew she recognised me and we worked out it was Fridays nights in spon street aged about 16.....

As I understand it - closed down partly due to change in laws (up until which 16 year old drinking was perfectly legal under the terms of the licence) so a massive drop in revenue plus the advent of social media made it a bit of a liability for the Schools to be associated with such bacchanalia.

If walls could talk...

Bablake and King Henry's are now 'one school' due to henry's lack of pupils. My daughter is in Shells at bkhs (bablake king henry school) bablake now (known as year 7) great school!
