School open days - do you take DC with you?

Open evening at local high school tomorrow.

I assumed we would take DC. However the invitation letter says "Dear parent/carer", and makes no reference to the DC.

Planning to just bring him anyway, but now wondering if there will be a different open day for prospective students...

Or am I massively overthinking this? Grin

My DC's have always been to open days with me. There have usually been lots of things for them to do in the different departments e.g. science demonstrations, food to try, puzzles.

Absolutely bring your children! They're the ones who will be going to the school! Most of the displays will be aimed at them.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/10/2017 17:42

Of course you take the DC - maybe they omitted to mention it because its som obviously a given?

TeenTimesTwo · 04/10/2017 17:56

Yes bring them. (Unless it is a school you don't want to send him to but are checking out just in case.) It is useful to see how the staff interact with the DCs.

Yes..I took my DS to the local two..He clearly was more excited and felt at home in the one to the other.. I would not of been able to make that decision otherwise.

I did a tour of one during the day which my DS didn't attend but that was year 5...Had that been his chosen school I would of taken him.

Robinkitty · 04/10/2017 18:02

I was really unsure about which of two schools, ds left the first one blank but came out of the second buzzing with excitement. Made it so much easier to choose. Definitely take them.

Definitely take your DC, you will be able to tell a lot by their reactions.

When I was doing this, I tended to go to them with a friend a year early, then go to the ones I liked with DD when it was her turn. There were always loads of children there, at state, grammar or private. And I think it is important that the child has some input.

AChickenCalledKorma · 04/10/2017 19:59

There will be loads of year 5 and 6 children there (assuming you are talking about year 7 entry). Definitely take him unless you have some good reason for wanting to have a sniff round on your own. And allow extra time in case he wants to get stuck in to science experiments, maths games, PE challenges etc - they may put on a bit of a show.

Thanks, will definitely take him then. Excited to see how he will react to it all.
