Just wondering if the number of physical education lessons vary between secondary schools and what the standard is. Went to see a school and they say they do 2 sessions every other week. DD currently in primary does 2 sessions per week.

Dd does 1 hour of games (netball, rounders etc) and 1 hour of gym (swimming, athletics) a week.

2 x 1 hour lessons a week yr 7. One called PE, one called Games.

DD in Y7 does 5 hours per fortnight timetable.

(3 hrs one week, 2 the next).

DD did 3 hours over a 2 week period. Two in week A and one in week B. She hated PE and was glad to drop it in 6th form.

3 hours per fortnight (KS3) and 2 hours per fortnight (KS4). It used to be more but this year the school has reduced the length of the school day due to funding cuts and all non academic subjects have been cut.

How much PE do children do in state secondary schools? No where near enough, 2 session per week. The DofE is not interested in sport. We found the PE lesson was the first to be cancelled if there were other pressures. Two "cover" lessons involved sitting at a desk writing the rules of netball! Get your DC to join as many of the extra-curricular sports clubs as possible, although we found those coming from sporty indie preps were put straight into the teams ahead of those from state primary.

DS - state secondary. Now in Y11 but it has never been less than 4 hours across a two week timetable. Currently, irritatingly, 1 hour wk A then 1 hour Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of wk B.

As he also plays rugby out of school twice a week, swims and goes to the gym I seem to spend my life washing kit.

like Traalaa dd's school have a weekly timetable & two hours of PE a week from y7 to y11.

Year 11 DD does 2 hours a week - each session is 1 hour. She does one session a fortnight in their gym, then the others vary between gymnastics, dance, fitness, netball, badminton and other sports. She doesn't do GCSE PE.

Depends on which sport teams the boy is on. There is one PE session and one games session a week (2 hours), but there are also many other sessions in addition to this which are specific sport related.

1st and 2nd IV rugby practice 5 hours a week + Saturday game
Swimming have 4x2hr sessions after school one 1x1.5 hr session before school, as well as lunchtime sessions.

Rowing has almost daily early morning sessions.

Plus there are so many other teams (rackets, 5s, basketball, tennis, fencing, athletics, cross country.....) - whatever suits your fancy.
