Hi - does anyone have any direct experience of private or state schools in and around the Richmond area that cater well for dyslexia? I have visited a few but am finding it hard to weddle out what they are really like from the inside. I'm looking for year 7 next year or 9 in 2020. Particularly Kew house school which has only recently come on my radar but I know nothing about it.....thanks in advance!

No direct knowledge but friend's DD has moderate dyslexia and is at Kew House and very happy there ( came from the Prep owned by the same people).

I have a very happy child at Kew House. No dyslexia but he loves school. Wide range of academic ability, very good teachers, calm and friendly atmosphere. I know there are kids there with dyslexia and the SEN department is well staffed.

Orleans used to have a good reputation for dyslexia provision, maybe worth a look

St Catherine's in Twickenham? Friend's DD is there who is dyslexic and there are about 5 others in her class. Smaller classes of 14 give a more personal approach. Good mix of ability inc some very academic girls. It is a Catholic school, but only about a third of pupils are actually Catholic. Art is amazing there - I believe they had 100 A* for the last 7 years! It is also supposed to have the best "value added" score of schools in SW London. Brand new science block, on-site pool, modern spacious classrooms and riverside location.

I looked at this school for DD and tbh, preferred it to Kew House as I felt this school was run a bit like a business and the premises were very claustrophobic- in the middle of an industrial park with classrooms looking out onto the M4! But I did think the head was very dynamic and obviously has a clear vision for the school.

Radnor House may be another one?

Don't go near Ibstock as they won't cater for dyslexia, even if the child is super bright.

I have DC's at Latymer Upper where they aren't phased by dyslexia in the least. Some of the brightest children there are dyslexic, in fact. They find strategies to make the most of their potential. But it is a fast-paced school.

Hi again, sorry for the silence but thank you all for your comments. I am liking the sound of Kew House (despite the view!) and am going to visit in November so a last minute application may be going in after that. Unfortunately I only have ds otherwise st Catherine’s would definitely be on the list as I’ve heard good things from many sources. Anyone got insider knowledge of Radnor house??
