Timetables (school day not maths)

How has everyone found their newly minted Y7 children's new timetables for the year?

I'm rather disappointed with ours as it has some rather daft timetabling going on for example:

They have one day

Science teacher 1 - SC lab
English teacher 3 - ENG room
Science teacher 2 - SC lab
English teacher 3 - Library

Another day they have

Maths - Teacher 1 - MA room 1
Maths - Teacher 2 - MA room 2

I know it's partly down to the fact you start building the timetable with Y11 and work backwards so Y7 get leftovers but still seems a real waste of time.

How have others found their kids day?

Oh and has anyone else logged into Sims Learning Gateway yet? It's soooooo slow and frustrating

Could it be that the science lessons are called a generic science lesson but are in fact biology, chemistry and physics and English could be language and literature. No idea about maths......

Ah yes DS has maths - English - maths today and it's not the only double split lesson he's got!

Not the case with my year 11 son. His timetable this year is crazy. One day (7 lessons per day) it's:-

Maths
English
Maths
English
German
Maths
German

3 out of 5 maths lessons in a single day! But what's really crazy is that the Maths, English and German are on different sites, so there's a 5-10 minute walk between the blocks, (involving crossing main roads etc), so there's a lot of wasted time.

I really don't think they started with year 11 and worked backwards at his school (By the way none of those teachers are part time).

I think it's worth remembering that a double lesson will be exhausting. I think the research shows that even at university level, after 45 minutes most people have zoned out and learning just isn't effective anymore. Year 7s are having to make huge adjustments and just adapting to the environment of the secondary school is exhausting.

DD1 is at Special School, but she has 7 lessons each day. Tutor time is always her first lesson, but today she has Humanities, Maths, English, Maths for Life, Drama, and Science. She gets a 15 minute morning break and a 35 minute lunch break. She is utterly exhausted at the end of the day.

there was another thread about this recently.
Basically those in the know said they have to start with part time teachers,a nd then fill in others round. So a full time teacher gets a heavier load on Mon and Fri as most part timers work tues/wed/thurs for example.
