How do "mark equivalents" relate to AQA grade boundaries?

On another thread a MNer kindly posted a document which for the AQA GCSEs showed the maximum mark available for each unit and what the grade boundaries were. I thought this would help me to work out how close to the grade boundary my DS came (for one GCSE in particular we are considering a re-mark). However, the information we have from the school for each unit is his "Mark Equiv" for each unit. This is obviously different from the mark itself because the number for his "Mark Equiv" is higher than the maximum mark. Is there any way I can work out, based on the information I have, how close to the grade boundary my DS actually was?

All the grade boundaries are on line. If you go the relevant exam board and search you will find a table with UMS and marks needed. AQA also have a useful calculator for each paper (edexcell do too but I can't work out how to use it )

If you tell me the exam board and exam I'll find it for you - I have them saved as have been dealing with a lot of queries this year
