Extra Curricular PE Activities - What do your schools offer?

For context, dc's go to a small (also no 6th Form) secondary modern in the North-West.

This is what they are offering for after-school sports clubs:
Football (16 sessions grouped by year)
Badminton (1 session for all years)
Netball (2 sessions)
Streetcheer (1 session)

I want to get a sense of what other similar/comparable schools are offering. Is this average?

I had no idea since dd hates PE but just looked up the timetable. This is rural comp in a pretty affluent area.

table tennis
rowing
swimming
hockey (boys & girls)
rugby
badminton (boys & girls)
netball
gymnastics
running club

... rugby, hockey, netball have various ability groups. The school take running, rugby & hockey very seriously.

They have a sports day devoted to each sport every year as well as the general athletics day. dd is rejoicing that she'll never have to do cross country again (year 12 now - 6th form have use of the gym but nothing is compulsory).

Thanks Laniakea

How many pupils are in your school? There are around 625 in ours.

about 900 plus the 6th form which is about 150 per year I think

Pascall · 08/09/2017 12:53

Oh, Ok, so similar sized school, but maybe with more PE teachers due to the 6th Form.

Thanks.

800 pupil school (inc. 6th form) and sports on offer are...

Football, rugby & cricket
Netball
Squash, tennis, badminton & table tennis
Cross country & athletics
Swimming

Laniakea · 08/09/2017 13:12

there's an 'agricultural' (being purposefully vague) faculty which donates staff to the PE faculty when required ... some of the clubs (e.g. running) are not run the PE staff but other staff with an interest (dd's form teacher (com sci) did the running club)

Pascall · 08/09/2017 13:29

That's useful to know. I don't think dc's school has anything similar to draw on.

My initial reaction was that this was a very poor range of activities. But the other schools around here aren't comparable in any way, so don't know if I'm being unfair. I also don't know how the recent cuts in funding would affect this kind of provision so wanted to do a bit of research before speaking to the school.

Much bigger school here 1400 pupils.

Football (boys only)
Netball (girls only)
Rugby (mixed)
Hockey (mixed)
Cheerleading (is this really a sport?) (girls only)

Pascall · 08/09/2017 13:41

Ha! Reinette I happen to know Cheerleading isn't technically a sport. Though you have to be extremely athletic to do it.

Bonkers that you have boys and girls only sports sessions though isn't it? -

Just had a look at the school where DD will hopefully to going next September and they do:-

Basketball Club
Swimming club (they have their own pool)
Waterpolo Club
Hockey club
Rugby club (its an all girls school)
Trampolining club
Netball
Badminton

They also do a whole host of non sports based clubs (like debating, glee club, drama club, choir, ukulele, flute, guitar clubs and lots more. Lots of them though are held during lunch time as opposed to after school.

Pascall · 08/09/2017 15:16

Hersetta is that a bog standard Comp? That's a great list!

Yes - its a non selective state school (but its in the top 10 non selective state schools in the country). We are very lucky to live a mile away from it.

DD I think only wants to go because of the basketball club (she plays for the county and region).

Logans · 17/09/2017 01:29

6 fairly standard sports plus a couple of non sports here. Average Comp about 1200 pupils.
