Millenium Babies - Last Ever First Day of School

So here we are DS (born in 2000) will have his last ever first day of school tomorrow.

Where did the time go?

He has agreed to one last photo tomorrow morning in front of the house to make his old momma happy.

Such an exciting year ahead for him but tomorrow will be a day of mixed emotions (happiness and nostalgia for the early years).

Anyone else feeling the same tonight?

Presumably 6th form/college? Mine is going into year 11 (born in 2002) and I hadn't even thought about it as being significant. Mind you, I missed first steps, first words, first days/last days in most school years.

MrsMontgomerySmythe · 04/09/2017 21:48

Yes last year of 6th Form for him. He has actually been at the same school (international School abord) since the age of 4 and with a lot of the same classmates.

Next summer they will part ways and scatter to the 4 corners of the world & he will start Uni in another country - so big changes ahead.

Tomorrow feels like the start of the countdown. Am exited for him though.

Time flies with children, doesn't it?

We have a Millennium Baby but he's just about to start in Year 12 - he is very annoyed that he wasn't born in 1999 though (so that he "could have the chance to live across three centuries")!!!

Witchend · 05/09/2017 08:39

Dh likes to point out that there was no year 0 so 2000 was actually not the start of the new millennium, 2001 was. So Teddygirlonce-he has!

Teddygirlonce · 05/09/2017 10:55

Oh I like your Dh's thinking @Witchend! Will report back to DS!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2017 11:00

dd had her last first day back at school too. I pronounced it as she left the house. She looked with horror. At least I didn't torture her with a fb photo Grin

Fifthtimelucky · 05/09/2017 15:30

Mine too. She was born in 1999. It would be great if she could live through 3 centuries (not that I'll be there to see it, obviously)!

My grandmother was born in 1899. In fact all my grandparents were born in the 19th century. It always sounded very ancient. None of them made 3 centuries but I always remember one of my grandfathers saying he had lived during the reign of 6 monarchs. I'm assuming 3 for me and perhaps 4 for my children.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/09/2017 15:51

that was why I really wanted to have a dc in 1999, I thought that would sound much cooler when they were really old Grin

LoniceraJaponica · 05/09/2017 21:26

Can I join in? DD was a millennium baby, so I saw the new millennium in with a pot of tea.

She will be starting her last academic year tomorrow and is not looking forward to it at all.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/09/2017 21:29

DS is going back into upper sixth tomorrow, it's making me feel ancient. Not so bad as DH though who is feeling like a relic that his baby is growing up. His two sons from his first marriage are so much older than DS who was a happy surprise, so it feels like the end of an era. Luckily for me I only have one biological child so it's a little bittersweet but not such a big thing.

Leeds2 · 05/09/2017 21:33

My DD was born in 1998, so very possible that she will live in three different centuries. I do hope so, although I won't be around to see it!

Good Luck to all DC staring their last ever day at school this week.

bluehairnewhair · 06/09/2017 21:12

Yes, my dd was another one starting Upper Sixth this week - she made me take a picture of her first day!

LoniceraJaponica · 06/09/2017 22:05

Do any schools still call it upper 6th these days? It sounds very Mallory Towers.
Disclaimer: it was lower and upper 6th when I was at school.

bettys · 07/09/2017 06:54

It's Upper Sixth in DS's school as well. Really have no idea where the time has gone 😂

MrsMontgomerySmythe · 07/09/2017 13:37

It is upper sixth in my younger DS UK boarding school - which is a gentle old fashioned school. He even uses the term "dormies" just like Darryl, Alicia and Sally.

DD is at a comprehensive, so it is year 13, and "post 16" not 6th form.
