Normally January. But telegraph often do a top 100 type around this time (the independent school A Level one is out.) This is based in info submitted voluntarily by the schools themselves, some schools are not there.

There was something in the Telegraph yesterday for Indy GCSEs - a few schools I know of were missing though and don't know why this would be. Any ideas please?

Such blunt instruments....

The official data from the govt is very informative. You can interrogate lots of data, e.g. fsm, pp, prior attainment, grades of exam passes, absence and lots more, to make judgements. Exam results are not the only data a savvy parent looks at these days.

Unfortunately, not all parents are savvy and look at Headline figures or dodgy data analysis done by local rags etc...

Also not all data is contextualised properly.

If parents cannot be bothered to interrogate info, then they don't care that much and league tables will do, won't they? Most parents know a good school vs a dire one so even league tables are beside the point for many parents.

Lot of room for interpretation as to what is a 'good' school or a 'dire' one...

Last year the final data had only some very minor changes vs. the provisional for the schools I looked at.

For parents, October is obviously "just in time" before submitting school preferences on CAF.

I thought the DofEd had changed how it presented figures, and the actual number of exam passes by grade was no longer available.

Well thats very cynical Ta1kinPeece. Next you'll be claiming that Sunday Times school of the year awards are given to the schools that spend the most on PR and marketing and they aren't actually the best schools in England.
