Hi all,

just out of hospital and wasn't able to collect my son's GCSE's with him on Thursday. He has college interview today but need help working out how far off he is from grades to see if he can still get on the course he wanted. It has been a catastrophic few days in our house as he hasn't done as well as he thought he would do :(

English for example

EDEX/GC: Eng Lang 3
EDEX/GC: Eng Lit. 3

He really needed a 4 / C equivalent but there is no further info on the sheet under the other headers of Mark Equiv, End1, End2 or Points - do I need to contact the school and find out some info and if so what am I asking for?

Give the school a ring/email and ask how many marks he was awarded for both Lang and Lit, and how far he was from the next grade boundary. I am a head of English and have dealt with a lot of these kind of queries this week, but for a different exam board. College should offer him the chance to resit, hopefully alongside his course. Tell them in the interview he was surprised by his result and is investigating a remark. Don't panic, lots of people will be in the same boat!

Thanks Woodchip, feeling a bit anxious for him especially as I have been under the weather so not 100% on the ball :(

It was a bit of a shock for him too, he really thought he would get 5's!

Also got EDEX Science D Mark Equiv. 169 then at the end of the line under a header 'points' is says 3. Is that how many away from the next grade?

I think that will mean how much that grade is worth in terms of 'points', more for the school. Again, you could ask the head of science to give you some insight. Sounds like a tricky time for you, hope you are on the mend. This gcse cohort have had it tough with all the gcse changes, really feel for your son. It will all work out ok!

Great - no-one at the school until Friday! Will see what college says to us this afternoon and take it from there.

Thanks Woodchip x
