"A teacher at Eton College breached exam security by inadvertently giving pupils confidential information before sitting a paper"

report on the BBC here

In reality there should be more that just Mo Tanweer in trouble - there are others who should be taking responsibility, such as the Exam Officer

Taking a creative is not compulsory. There are limits on how many you can take from the art, design, music, drama, computing pool (I think it is 2 but not sure) but the boys don't have to take one.

Oh sorry - didn't read closely - thought it was still on Eton!

Michaelahpurple · 29/08/2017 10:49

And yes, if it had been creative at ds1's school he certainly wouldn't have taken art as he is hopeless at it. I gather it is a lot of work so why would anyone who wasn't good at it bother taking it?

No one teacher sets the exams. It's a group effort and highly regulated.

One or even a few immoral members of the profession doesn't mean teachers shouldn't be setting the exams - they are the best people to do it and I would encourage more to become involved in that side.

Horrified as always over any teacher who cheats 😔 I don't know how they can look at themselves.

I would be expecting a full investigation by CIE covering:

-how many exam setters are also teaching students taking the exam? Are these two examples unique? Has the same thing happened in other schools?

  • why was this obvious conflict of interesst not identified in advance by the exam board. Why did they not use retired teachers to set the exams? What is the norm for the setting of A Level and GCSE papers?
  • what does an analysis of the results of the schools in which the exam setters are teaching show? Are the results disproportionately high for the cohort?
  • to what extent do the answers to the questions above compromise the integrity of past results? What is the future of the pre U qualification now?

I have just posted twice on the other Eton thread over in Education so won't repeat myself here.
