GCSE Art -review possible?

My son needs C in Art for his 6th form and got a D. He got C for his portfolio and D for the set task (OCR). I looked at grade boundaries and he was 4 marks off C. His application has been referred for a decision, is it worth it (or even possible) to ask for the set task mark to be reviewed?

I have asked the same question of my son's school. The exams officer doesn't think so (the whole cohort is graded by an external moderator) but she is checking with the art department

This is so unfair as art is so subjective. It isn't like maths, etc. There is no right or wrong answer.

I've emailed the school basically pleading with them to accept him onto the course. Art is his passion, he's got a college place for graphic design but his heart is absolutely set on 6th form. He got maths and English but his other results aren't great. My heart is breaking for him Sad

Btec art might be more suitable than A levels and is very well looked upon by art colleges. Btec art and design will probably have a wider choice of modules but if he loves graphic design and the course looks good go for that. He will soon make new friends and will most likely enjoy it more than 6th form. I am speaking from experience DD chose btec art over A levels and is studying it at uni now.

Meant to say if he has struggled a bit with gcse's, A levels are likely to prove difficult and he may be better to concentrate on his passion and make some headway with his art. He has got his maths and english so he won't have to retake or do functional skills at college. Two of my DCs have headed to college instead of 6th form without knowing anyone else going there. Both had 10 plus gcse mainly A* A B grades so it was a proactive choice. Go and speak to the college again and look round and read the modules.

Robin you have hit the nail on the head I think - he wants to stick with his mates. I really think college would be the better option for him. We've been and enrolled today whilst waiting to hear from 6th form; the tutor remembered his name from when we looked round and she was gutted when he told her 6th form is his first choice. I can't force him to do it, it has to be his choice (& potentially his mistake to make) but I am trying to subtly influence him tell him what to do Confused

There is always the chance to transfer in the first few weeks, not ideal but can be done.

Happydays, the way GCSE art is marked is not subjective at all. There is specific criteria to fulfil and the marks get checked and standardised by teachers and moderators.
