I keep going round in circles with my DD and would appreciate some outside opinions on Woolmer Hill, Haslemere and Bohunt, Liphook please. Do you have a child at either school and would you recommend it? I've heard both have bullying issues - is this something anyone has experience of? I searched for previous threads but they're years old. DD is quiet, hard working and top sets in most subjects at Primary. She particularly likes computing and is interested in engineering/software development and coding. Thanks

As far as I know the bullying stuff from Bohunt is based on threads on a local site that are a few years old. Dd has a few friends that go to Bohunt and she hasn't heard of anything...only thing I do know is that there are rife rumours that the catchment area for the school is shrinking ..they used to take as many as applied but I fear that is no more. Sorry can't comment on Woolmer as I am very wrong side of Hants hopefully someone else will be along soon

There will be kids who bully in any school, it how's it's dealt with that you need to look at.

I've known kids who have been at Woolmer Hill who enjoyed their time there, got good grades and went onto university to study good things!

Any school with 1000 kids that says it does not have bullying is lying

I've driven past Bohunt at kicking out time ( my standard test on the "vibe"of a secondary school) and it seems a very happy place with well mannered kids

I know children who have been happy and done done well at both. I also know children who have been unhappy, have been bullied, and who have done badly at both. All the children I'm aware of who were bullied were quiet studious girls, but this was a few years ago.

At the time, Bohunt was much more popular and many Haslemere children went there. As far as I can see, the tide seems to be turning a bit, as Woolmer Hill's results have improved. Some people are put off Bohunt because of its bigger size.

when you visit them hopefully things become clearer. It does really help ..then you can start to really narrow it down.

Ashara: if you use Facebook you might like to look at the Haslemere Rants page. Someone who has just left the school has posted a big rant there today about how awful Woolmer Hill was. If you can face it there are 146 comments. I've have only read a few but some are agreeing and some are saying that it was great. Bullying gets mentioned quite a bit.

Hi! My children both go to Bohunt (my son started this morning!). My daughter has been there for two years now. She missed all of year 6 due to illness and despite that and also missing a fair chunk of year 7, she is thriving and happy. It is a big school, but the pastoral care my daughter receives has always been personal and supportive, and they continue to care for her very well as she has ongoing health issues. I can't complain about the school at all or recommend it enough.

However, Liphook as a town is being developed fast and for the first time, I know children at linked schools outside of catchment that did not get in this year even though it was their preferred option.

All schools will experience some bullying, but when my daughter had some friendship 'issues' Bohunt dealt with it immediately. I know children at Bohunt and Woolmer Hill who are very happy and doing well, but no school will suit the uniqueness of every child.

For non-selective state schools, both Bohunt and Woolmer Hill got some impressive GCSE results this year. I would not have minded if my daughter had wanted to go Woolmer Hill, I thought it was lovely when I looked around. But it is a small school and the respective lack of funding does show. I have known of a few children who have successfully switched from Bohunt to Woolmer Hill as they have felt 'lost' in a big school.

Woolmer Hill has recently had some bad news with a former student sadly ending her life last week, but there are other factors to take into consideration than just this poor girl's school experience. It has led to some emotional outpourings on social media but all I can say is that I personally know children and parents who are very happy at Woolmer Hill.
