Any advice?

He was planning to do Maths, Physics and Chemistry but got level 6 (not that unexpectedly) in Maths GCSE (A's in Triple science)

Doesn't love Maths. Feels he's missing some of the fundamentals and did not like his teacher. Wobbly before but a level 7 might have reassured him

BUT has got the impression that you must do Maths with Physics

Take your point Dunlurking. I think that was definitely the case with Chemistry. The Maths seemed to be revision stuff. DH was chivvying him.

We shall see. Bit cheerier today (him).

Honestly, if you can afford and find a good tutor, s/he will be worth every penny.
We had a tutor who covers maths, physics and chemistry, just an hour every week, but gave DS the chance to talk through any difficulties in any of the 3 subjects. In our case, the tutor was guided by DS rather than having a specific programme to follow.
