I'm confused about gcse grade boundaries as Dd seems to have more marks than maximum possible

So AQA graphics she got an A. But got 153 marks forunit 1 and 200 marks for unit two. Both more than maximum possible.

English language which is wjec she got 50 marks for unit 1 and 52 marks for unit 2 which says it should be an 8 but she got a 7.

Am I looking at the wrong thing?

Grade boundaries are usually for raw marks and the results on the results slip are almost always UMS or scaled marks.

Thanks, this is bloody confusing.

It's fairly unlikely isn't it that they have given her the wrong grade for the mark?

Dd was hoping to see how close to grade boundaries she was to finalise a level choice but now can't I guess.

Pretty unlikely but not impossible.

I've checked and aqa graphics is out of 400 UMS so an A would be 320 and an A* 360.

The WJEC boundaries for English are confusing. You have to take the paper 3 mark and x0.5 then add the paper 1 mark. That gives 128 and the boundary for an 8 was 129. So 50 and 52 don't add up to an 8 even though you'd expect them to because they say that's the grade boundary for an 8 on each paper. I think WJEC have made a mistake in their grade boundaries somewhere.

Paper 2 not 3, sorry.

Thank you so much, that's been mega helpful.

Where can I check the ums grade boundaries?

DumbledoresApprentice · 24/08/2017 17:56

UMS boundaries stay the same every year so there won't be 2017 ones. If you just search a for UMS boundaries for the exam board or subject they'll be somewhere on the internet. A is 90% A- 80% and so on. So if the gcse is out of 400 an A is 360, if it's out of 300 and A* is 270.
