Residential visits question

I'm hoping you might all be able to help me.

If your dc go on residential trips (school or other groups), do you receive a list of staff who are going on the trip beforehand? If you do, what assumptions would you make about those staff?

Apologies for being cryptic. This has nothing at all to do with my school where we always give parents a list of the staff going, details of the accommodation, an itinerary and a contact number (school reception or designated senior teacher for the duration of the trip). Just interested in others' experiences. Thank you in advance

As a school governor I would say you do have a problem.

Firstly we didn't, as a school, write our own policy. Our LA did all the legal legwork and it is onerous. Your Charity should have bought in a similar service and everyone involved in the process of safeguarding should be identified and trained. It is just not a case of writing a policy. How do you know your policy is good enough for what it seeks to do if there is no over-arching policy from the charity at a higher level? Or another advisory body?

If you are supposed to be in charge of this (?) why don't you know who is going on the trips and ensure they are DBS checked? Whose responsibility is this? Is it not in your policy? Dies anyone ensure the policy is followed if a random person has gone on the trip? I would ask questions if I were you and consider exactly what your role is? Get a proper policy with all this clearly written into it and do not allow others to avoid the requirements. It sounds like you need a journeys and trips policy too.

By the way, in a school the named person is responsible. Frequently the Head. The buck stops there. It is not the governors or a committee who are trained. They do receive reports and check the policy is working effectively. A committee is too unwieldy for day to day management of this. There should be one person who is responsible and they report to the committee.
