Moving to Worcester!

Hello,

We are in the very early stages of moving to Worcester due to a move in job for my husband. Our children are 11 & 10 and currently go to private school in Coventry.

Need help with areas to look into for house purchases and private senior school and junior school.

Thanks in advance!

Kings has a very good reputation as does the grammar.

My friend's eldest is at Kings and does very well there.

Good luck! We're in Malvern btw.

If you're looking at central Worcester for a school, your options are limited to Kings and RGS. Both are mixed and have junior and senior and very good, Kings especially has great pastoral care. In terms of areas to live, the outskirts of Worcester and the surrounding villages are nicer than central parts. Claines and Northwick are probably the nicest areas imo. If you're looking outside of central Worcester, Malvern has College and St James, or Bowbrook and Bredon are both lovely rural non selective schools and would be my first choice! Good luck with the move, it's a lovely place to live.

Be careful of flood risk.

Unless you are talking about Barbourne. It's full of lovely Georgian houses and is very handy for RGS, town and the railway station (and not that far from Kings). But the countryside is glorious for car driving adults

Malvern college?
Malvern st James?

Kings and RGS Worcester have very good reputations. I would look at both. In terms of where to live I would recommend looking at Great Malvern as it would be a nice place to live and the children could travel to school by train. There are other nice places to live in the surrounding area but check which ones are well connected by coach to the schools before buying as you would not want to be driving into Worcester twice a day.

King's and RGS are selective. Brendon and Bowbrook are good for SEN. Abberley is a good prep which goes up to 13 so may be solution for both DC until you've had chance to look more closely at options. Winterfold has just been bought out by Bromsgrove School.
I can recommend King's from experience but entrance is becoming tougher since new head started. The pastoral care is great particularly for the more quirky able child.
DS has friends in most of the local private schools and not heard any serious complaints. There will be Open days coming up for RGS and King's in the Autumn term check their websites for the dates. They are held on Saturdays so you can combine visit with a look around the city centre.
