Girls school shoe advice

Hi, I am a school shoe novice as my 11 year old daughter going into yr 7 in Sept has never had a uniform before. She is tall and her feet are a 5 1/2 according to Clarks today (actually they measured her initially as a 6 1/2 but I demanded a recount!). She didn't fit into any of their black shoes.
School uniform policy states black, sensible, plain unembelished. Any suggestions as places other than Clarks we could get nice leather school shoes for her size. I did think about Dr Martins but would worry they would be too heavy all day.
Thanks so much

Have you got a Charles Clinkard near you? I find them really good for bigger sizes.

LittleIda · 22/07/2017 22:34

If she didn't fit into the 5 1/2 did you try any in the 6 1/2 she originally measured at?

LittleIda · 22/07/2017 22:35

Also you could maybe leave it a bit longer in case her feet grow over the summer.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 22/07/2017 22:39

Kickers are de rigeur in my local schools.
Have you tried Clarks' adult range?
Debenhams do basic brogues in their school uniform range and I know they go up to adult sizes because I bought a pair for me to wear to work (VAT free! Bargain!)
Startrite are good - expensive but no more so than Docs.

What was the problem with the Clarks shoes?

MrsBadger · 22/07/2017 22:45

Dd gives her shoes a real beating and this year we're trying M&S - these go up to a 7.

The Clarks only went up to a 5 and there wasn't anything suitable in the adult section. Not heard of Charles Clinkard, will take a look, thanks.
Yes Debenhams is a good idea and yes thinking about it she does seem to grow on a weekly basis so might hold off a few weeks.
Thanks everyone :-)

Yes M and S, didn't think of them for shoes. She liked the brogue style

Clark's do bigger than size 5! Did they just have nothing in stock? DD wears a 6 or 7 and has always had Clark's flat lace ups.

Wolfiefan · 22/07/2017 22:49

John Lewis?

PatriciaHolm · 22/07/2017 22:50

DD has Clarks in a 6 and they always offer to order in if they don't have the right size!

clary · 22/07/2017 22:52

These ones www.clarks.co.uk/c/Selsey-Cool-BL/p/261188956065 go up to a 9

ilovewine · 22/07/2017 22:55

Hi, sorry I'm Scottish so is YR7 high school (our first year equivalent)? If so my high school DD wouldn't be seen dead in Clarks Shoes 🙈 her school are v.strict with uniform and we go to Schu and Office (good quality and cheaper than clarks) and they bring out a range of school shoes about now. Hope this helps x

LittleIda · 22/07/2017 22:56

Dd has got those.

BroomstickOfLove · 22/07/2017 22:58

21 styles in 5 1/2 at Clark's. A couple of them look nice and plain and lace-up.

Migraleve · 22/07/2017 22:59

Echo what ilovewine said. There is no way mine would go into high school wearing clarks shoes. aThat would be seen as the ultimate embarrassment

LittleIda · 22/07/2017 23:01

Dd and friends wear Clarks. I haven't heard of any mocking or nastiness about it yet.

Kursk · 22/07/2017 23:04

I had Doc Martins at school and loved them

MrsBadger · 22/07/2017 23:14

(If they're all wearing brogues no one will have a clue whose are from where)

sydenhamhiller · 22/07/2017 23:19

DD1 is starting y7 in September and will be wearing her older brother's plain black lace up doc martens. They have been the most unbelievable shoes, lasted all y7 for him until he out grew them. They did absolutely kill his feet (his heels) despite me telling him to 'wear them in' - my only warning. DS insists they were worth the pain - still in great nick and shiny (after a rare polish) after severe punishment (unofficial football every lunchtime).

PatriciaHolm · 22/07/2017 23:21

DD is year 7. Fortunately Clarks are totally acceptable and none of her friends are superficial enough to care.

Watto1 · 22/07/2017 23:23

I find Schuh to be good for school shoes.

paxillin · 22/07/2017 23:27

Clarks Hamble Oak in black should fit the bill?

MrsBadger · 22/07/2017 23:28

Gamble

MrsBadger · 22/07/2017 23:30

Sorry, clumsy thumbs.
Hamble Oak have hard soles and click. Not ideal for school.

Bingeslayer · 22/07/2017 23:30

Startrite
