Are you expected to give presents to teachers in Secondary school? DD about to end Y7 and not sure whether it is more of a primary school thing.,If you do get an end of year present what do you tend to get?!

No.

Maths teachers tend to get massive gift baskets, amazon vouchers, expensive chocolate, bottles of champagne.

Other teachers tend to get bog-all and get jealous, so any maths teacher gift-giving is done on the quiet, which might be why it looks like we don't get any either. Don't be fooled, and don't be the only one not giving, that would be embarrassing.

I want to send a letter/card to all my son's teachers, thanking them for all their hard work during the GCSE years.

Should I do a group email rather than a card? Would a acrd be seen? do Secondary teachers all go in the Staff Room like at Primary, or do they skulk in their rooms with a Pot Noodle for company?

I sent prosecco for each GCSE teacher, they were very happy!

beachdream · 28/06/2017 07:07

Rarely sadly! I got a lot of thank you notes from my GCSE kids and parents over the years and I got prosecco and chocolate from A-level students quite often! Younger kids pretty much never

My DDs Year clubbed together for head of year and form teacher. Y11 and leaving the school. She also bought all her teachers a big chocolate bar. But not done anything in other years.

Nothing. Occasionally from A level students, rarely gcse. The A level ones tend to be more heartfelt. One made me cry last week.

DS is in Y7. I will send emails to 3-4 teachers who have particularly helped him. But no presents.

NewDayDawning · 28/06/2017 07:25

No.

At The end of year 11 my DS took his form tutor of 5 years a present and card (he said she looked so surprised and pleased as if she might cry a little)

No, however, DD has just left Year 11. We gave a small chocolate gifts to three teachers who have been particularly supportive and DD is taking in some flowers tomorrow to one teacher who has again been supportive and she particularly likes.

Rizzledizzle · 28/06/2017 08:37

DD's school goes from Y4-12 so many of the teachers that she has were teachers when she was in the primary part of the school. She used to give them presents then. Just not sure what to do now.

Our kids form tutors still get presents from us. This year it is a restaurant voucher.
