Please vote for better secondary school funding

I've just spoken to two mums in my local supermarket who tell me they aren't going to bother to vote. A number of people have told me this over the last few weeks. I agree it is very frustrating to feel there is no "perfect" political party but please, don't waste your vote - get out there and vote for better funding of secondary and primary education. Our state education system is in crisis.

The people who vote Tory 'because it's good for the economy' will be the same ones moaning that their kid hasn't got a qualified maths teacher, the school is asking them for donations, their kid is being forced to take GCSE French and they've dropped a bunch of subjects from the options list.

People don't care until it affects them.

At which point it's too late Sad

There wont be the money to fund anything. The rent a crowd that following JC is all carefully managed. They seem to have an awful lot of time on their hands. They are voting for more and more funding and support for themselves. They don't care who pays for it as long as its not them.. JC has promised everything to everyone he can think of, students, older people, childcare, more benefits, more funding for childcare and those are the ones I can think of immediately..

It's not just the funding that's the issue, it's the entire disastrous Tory approach to education.

Hillingdon - sorry, but there is money to fund education, our money, held by the government. It is the way in which this money is to be used, plus how it has been withheld (reduced) in the last few years that is important. The main political parties favour very different types of funding for education. It is up to us to vote for what we believe will be best for our children and grandchildren.

And I will vote accordingly. I have worked with the health and local authority sector for over 30 years and the waste and chaos going on is shocking. I would not be happy to pay more tax until that is sorted out so I will vote for May.

TheRollingCrone · 08/06/2017 16:42

I don't really care if JC borrows the moon to pay for what we need. The Tories have overseen the biggest transfer of public money into private hands ever. The deficit is huge.

Hillingdon I know many many NHS workers at all levels and many teachers and ALL of them without exception are either voting labour OR tactically, so lib dem. The NHS is in chaos, our schools are desperately underfunded. NOTHING can be worse than this. Our national debt has increased under Tory rule, where is that money going? To line the pockets of the rich that's where. Rather than worrying about bringing back fix uphunting or supporting the ivory trade they should be looking after our vunderable and needy

Rudi44 · 08/06/2017 20:00

Dur auto correct, FOX hunting, obviously

Hillingdon - My original post was just to persuade a few more people to vote and not to waste their vote. But do you seriously think Jeremy Hunt and Justine Greening are the people to sort out the issues in the NHS and education? Where were they during the campaign - hidden by the Tories as Mrs May doesn't want to talk about the real issues in the health service and schools. And yes, Diane Abbott did not cover herself in glory on the other side and I would rather she was not in a senior role, but thankfully it looks like Labour have locked her in a cupboard and will pick Yvette Cooper as her replacement. I have experience of state primary and, at secondary level, both state and private. The money the Tories want to put into new grammars and free schools is a disgrace - it should be for all children not just the children of those able to move house to benefit.

Well, the electorate have proved they will not be told what to do by Mrs May. What an absolute mess. Let's hope Mrs May and her new bedfellows the DUP will do an "about turn" on her education funding policies. Doubtful I know but she'll be wanting to be more popular with voters so she can go to the polls for a proper majority next time (whenever she calls that!).
