y11/y13 - plans for the summer

My DD is y13 and has about 6 weeks between finishing college and when she will start an apprenticeship end July.

She needs ways to occupy her time as is hopeless when left with lots of time to spare. Ruling out going abroad, or interim job prior to apprenticeship.

Money is not an issue (within reason). Needs to be things that can be done without friends. She's too old for NCS and also doesn't have 4 solid weeks free.

First aid course, riding lessons, cookery course, pass plus driving all on the possibles list already.

Suggestions? What are your teens up to?

Water sports course, or life guard course.
Rock climbing if you have a climbing wall.
Volunteer at something like a food bank, which I'm sure would take someone for just six weeks. National Trust also offer a variety of live in voluntary projects, which you have to pay to do. Might be worth a look.

Volunteering at foodbank is an interesting suggestion.
(She's not at all sporty)

I get the impression - perhaps wrongly! - that food banks are prepared to take people for a short period of time (and may especially welcome people in the summer when other volunteers may have DC to look after or be on holiday). I equally get the impression that some don't want to spend time training someone up for a not very long period of work.
Might be worth looking at the Reading Challenge in your local library too. Ours always asks for volunteers, but the positions seem to get taken up very quickly!

Mine is volunteering in local primary school post exams. Loves it and they are delighted to have her

Mine is doing NCS. It looks really good and only costs £50 Smile
