Because we need a new thread now that things are really hotting up!

So we're full steam ahead on revision - couple of days off over the half term break, but by far the majority of the time pent revising.

Ontopofthesunset · 30/05/2017 13:01

DS is sitting a mixture of IGCSE and GCSE; apart from GCSE Latin and Drama (for which he didn't have a final exam as it was 60% controlled assessments and 40% assessed performance), the only exams that have finished are IGCSEs (MFL and both Englishes).

Laniakea · 30/05/2017 13:12

dd has only finished two GCSEs - French & Eng lit - she's also done an AS (60% portfolio) & a BTEC (presentation & portfolio done in April). She's got another 13 exams to finish the last 7 GCSEs.

DD is definitely stressed - mainly by history - & she's finding it hard to juggle the revision for so many subjects.

Fleurdelise · 30/05/2017 13:45

DS has done 11 exams but only finished 3 subjects, PE, English Lit and French. He has another 12 to go over the next couple of weeks once back at school. Total 10 GCSEs.

Apparently he's revising today, I am at work so no actual proof he's doing so but I have to trust him.

GiraffeorOcelot · 30/05/2017 14:06

DS also only finished two subjects, Spanish and English Lit. 13 exams to go over next two weeks (9 done so far).

He had the weekend off and now seems to be back at it. I have ended up working out his revision plan for him though...

LittleHo · 30/05/2017 14:12

ds has only finished English LIt and RS.

He still has 16 exams to go. Ages yet. Sad

QueenofQuirkiness · 30/05/2017 14:21

DD has finished English lit, core science, French and Latin, with 6 left (13 exams). History is a source of stress for her too, along with Unit 3 science. Don't think she's done very much revision over these last few days so I should probably encourage some now Grin

Laniakea · 30/05/2017 14:51

she's got paper 1 history on Monday then Eng lang & geography on Tuesday ... this weekend will be lots of geography & history I think.

Then maths & both biology papers later in the week. She did geography & history on Sunday, maths & biology yesterday and is doing history and chemistry today. Maths & geography again tomorrow I think ... don't think she's planned any further than that!

Two weeks tomorrow is the worst day though - history paper 2 & two chemistry papers. She finishes with the two physics papers which she needs to do well on, I'm worried she'll have run out of steam by then.

pointythings · 30/05/2017 15:05

DD1 has finished English Lit and French, still has 1x RE, 2x History, 2x Geography, 2x Physics, 3x Chemistry, 2X Biology, 2X English Lang and 2x Maths to do. It feels like a looooong way to go.

DD has finished 3 subjects French, English Lit and Art exam was done in March. Has eight subjects to go over three weeks.

applesareredandgreen · 30/05/2017 18:01

Jumping in a bit late on this thread if that's ok.

My DS was one of the students who mistakenly answered the English Lit question about Mr Birling rather than Mrs Birling. He was really pleased with his answer until he started chatting to his friends as they came out of the exam room ..... he was really upset on Friday evening.

He needs 6 B's /5's to get into his choice of 6th form provision. He also thinks he's only got a C in the Core science done so far. I've told him he still had a chance as there are 6 subjects to be covered in his coming exams but he needs to spend this week revising hard - and then remember to 'read the questions'!

It's his birthday on Friday- at least it's during the holiday week rather than a day when he has an exam. We are going shopping for his prom suit and for s meal - we've said we will give him some money to celebrate with his friends when exams are over.

jr2116 · 30/05/2017 18:02

My DS has 9 exams after half term, 2 English language, geography, computer science, 2 maths and 3 science.

He's already finished all his exams in RE, French, english literature and core science.

LittleHo · 30/05/2017 18:06

Your poor ds apples. This could so easily happen with any of our sons / daughters. Hopefully he will pick up some marks from the Mr Birling essay. Fingers crossed.

BertrandRussell · 30/05/2017 19:01

If yours are going in for revision sessions, do they have to wear uniform?

LIZS · 30/05/2017 19:13

Don't think so, didn't over Easter.

Laniakea · 30/05/2017 19:21

dd didn't

Danglingmod · 30/05/2017 20:06

Ds's school isn't running half term revision sessions but they did a couple over Easter and a couple of Saturday mornings last half term. It was no uniform except the one occasion it was also school open morning!

pointythings · 31/05/2017 08:54

DD isn't going to any revision sessions in school, she does very well alone (as evidenced by her mocks) but I don't think so.

ifonly4 · 31/05/2017 10:43

apples- welcome. You probably won't have picked up on my post, but my DD was worried about how she dealt with one of her English questions and spoke to her teacher - the teacher said even if she hadn't quite given them the answer they wanted, she's got some strong relevant points in and she'd certainly get some marks. I've since spoke to a neighbour whose a a secondary school teacher who said even if they answer a essay style question wrong, they will still pick up marks for certain elements which show their understanding of the book. Your son isn't the only one whose done this. We need a minimum of six Bs here as well, but with the statement ideally an A in subjects they want to take, so feeling the pressure here. Tell him to forget about everything on Friday and have a great day.

pointy, I'd just come on to ask if mine wasn't the only one doing revision sessions. The revision sessions here tend to be past papers which DD reckons she can do at home and it's save her time walking to school (although I think the fresh air would be good). The only one she's agreed to is maths.

Ontopofthesunset · 31/05/2017 10:50

DS's school doesn't run any revision sessions - they did lunchtime sessions for some subjects from after the January mocks until study leave started at the beginning of May. Those were voluntary for most people, I think, though DS says some boys were told to attend eg Physics sessions. So it's just DS, Spotify and past papers this week.

Redsrule · 31/05/2017 13:23

I am running sessions tomorrow and Friday for English Language but it is mostly for reassurance, kids find Language difficult to revise for and this can make them anxious. The biggest issue with this new GCSE is exam technique and timing so I will be focusing on that.

Madhairday · 31/05/2017 17:18

Dds school have only done one session, maths.

Dds friendship group appears to have imploded over social media so I have a very stressed and tearful dd here, apparently everything has fallen apart and nothing will be the same now. One of them has Flounced from fb in dramatic fashion and told dd to never message her again and dd has no idea why :(

We could do without the high drama right now, really...

I guess they're all stressed about revision. Still seems such a long way to go, doesn't it.

PossomInAPearTree · 31/05/2017 17:37

Tomorrow me and Dd are having a trial run for the journey to her new sixth form.

Train into town. Then she has seven mins to run to the bus station and catch a bus. The bus will drop her off near school 9 mins before form time starts. She has about a 3 min walk to school so then has six mins to get to form and it's a big campus.....no idea how far to her form room.

If she misses that bus it's a ten min wait for the next.

I am beginning to panic that if she is 5--10 mins late every day she will get a detention every day. The school is strict. But it is form time for thirty mins, so she would never be late for her first lesson. I'm hoping with it being sixth form and the fact it's not her fault they will understand. There's no earlier train!

AtiaoftheJulii · 31/05/2017 17:55

Gosh, that is tight. Good luck with the trial run!

cantkeepawayforever · 31/05/2017 17:57

Does anyone else go in from your direction - even an older 6th former with a car?
