Ski trips

Dd has received a letter Re a ski trip. It is for 5 days excluding travel days. I think it is good value but dh is less convinced.
So is £800 about right for a skiing trip including equipment and lessons and full boards and travel etc.

Including lessons and ski hire etc I don't think that's bad value. Assuming there are flights involved.

No flights but coach ferry crossing I believe. Hence why they are away 7 days but only ski for 5.,Thank you for reply .

My DS went with the school for one week of the Easter Holiday. Same thing - 2 days travelling by coach, 5 days skiing, all food and equipment included. £860. We were never going to do it as a family. He had the time of his life and skiing may well become a lifelong passion (which he can pay for from now on!).

We did have to buy ski suit, goggles and snow boots - but I got it all from ebay for less than £80.

We are pay No a similar amount for what you get plus the flights and coach there.
I would be very careful about the piece of the Tavel that will make the whole cost go up by quite a lot.

Re skinstuff, we also have a shop where we are that is renting the ski equipment (trousers and jacket) at a very good price. We haven't decided if we are going to do that but worth looking for.

We let ours go on the school trips.
To go with them in school holidays works out very very expensive.
So they go on the school trip (have a blast) and we take a week during term time and do a more adult based ski week and it still works out much cheaper than us all going together.
Even given the option, ours would rather go with their mates.
We have a full family together in the summer.

We paid £1250 this year. France during the Easter holidays. Flights, skis, lessons, full board and insurance.
He had a brilliant time.

Sounds about right to me.

We are paying just over £2.5k for DS's (he'll be 14 then) ski trip with school next year - but it's in the US and for 10 days.

He skis already (has done since age 4) and has all the gear, so we won't need to pay for that unless he's had another growth spurt which is very likely which means he will need all new stuff or is big enough he can use DH's gear. He wouldn't be seen dead in mine obviously.....

The only question we have is re:lessons. He doesn't need them (though there is always room for improvement) so we need to speak to the teachers about options. He'd be bored shitless in a beginner/intermediate group. I'm pretty sure they will group by ability though - fingers crossed.

DS now yr12 went in Yr8, it cost us around £900 for the Feb half term to Austria by coach.

That's a good price Fab39ish...My DD's school ski trip was £1450 last Feb and has gone up to £1750 next year - Feb HT again....they do fly but they also take along their own ski instructors which makes the cost SO unaffordable ...thankfully my DD ski's really well (we have managed to find cheap ski holiday for the last 3/4 years mainly over NY) and she has now prefers Snowboarding - so she doesn't want to go on the school trips because she said lessons are compulsory. Not sure how old your DD is but we have a ski helmet and a good ski jacket if she's around 13/14yrs old - that you could have FOC

OP likewise - depending on age I have kit I can give you. Helmets/Jackets etc.

Sounds right. Big age gaps are good - otherwise, you'd have to find 3x the amount at the same time, for triplets, plus no 'handing down' of clothes or goggles, etc.
