Help! I don't know why but I thought the wansdworth test for admissions 2018 was in January 2018 - but it's in September 2017.

I havent prepared my daughter at all for verbal and non verbal.

Please I really need some advice. On the website they say they use GL aasesment papers but I can't find GL assesment papers on amazon.

Alos, can anyone recommend a website or books that help break down how to teach your child verbal and non verbal.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Thank you

the result was in the junk mail box! DS got 240 combined score so as far as I understand it means he can put Graveney on his form but is not guaranteed a place. We don't live that close (probably 3 miles away) and he has no sibling there. Still it's good to know he is eligible to apply.

helloSW15 · 18/10/2017 20:05

How do you know whether they’re eligible to apply? Is there a cut off or do you just decide looking at past years?

AveEldon · 18/10/2017 20:20

Anyone can apply
The cut off for the selective places is different each year but it doesn't change massively
It is also lower by 31 August so if you are prepared to hang on then a score of 240 may be enough

whataboutbob · 18/10/2017 20:35

Sorry Eldon but I don't understand, don't the forms have to be in by Oct 31st? Or is there some kind of secondary school clearing system.

whataboutbob · 18/10/2017 20:36

Hello SW15 yes I was going by last years scores as per wandsworth' s email.

AveEldon · 18/10/2017 20:57

yes the form has to be in by 31 Oct
I am talking about the cut off TEST SCORE for the selective places

AveEldon · 18/10/2017 20:58

After offer day they have a waiting list and stuff changes people move house etc so the cut off score will be lower once school starts
Again it's in the email

whataboutbob · 18/10/2017 21:32

Ooops , just realised I read the wrong table of scores and wrongly thought DS was eligible, in fact he is somewhat below last year's required scores.
Thanks Eldon for explaining about the waiting list and the re assessment of the scores in August .

AveEldon · 18/10/2017 21:41

It's still worth putting it first on your list if it's your top choice
There are another 5 spots on the form for other schools

Arkestra · 18/10/2017 23:00

hellosw15 currently the Wandsworth test is standardised as per a standard IQ test scale: the average between the 2 papers is set with a mean of 100, standard deviation of 15.

So an average score of 100 is in the middle of the test population. An average score of 113 is at the boundary of the top 20% of the test population. The Graveney level for offers by August is an average of about 123, the top 7% of the test population.

See here for a mapping between average scores and position in test population: www.iqcomparisonsite.com/iqtable.aspx

255 is above the previous years so yes you should get offered it
But it depends which schools you list and which order

They will give you the top choice that you meet the entrance criteria for

AveEldon · 19/10/2017 07:10

You will only get offered one school

Kutik73 · 19/10/2017 13:53

Thanks, Eldon. I heard the fierce competition to get a place at Greveney so gave up the thought of applying for the school a long time ago. Instead, we went through other selective options (a music place an so on), and DS has secured a few places at a good/okay secondaries. Now with the possibility of getting offered by Grevenery in sight, I feel I need to rethink the order of the application... Nice to have a choice, but feel so much pressure to make a right decision. Grevenery is such a good school, but we didn't particularly liked the location...

Kutik73 · 19/10/2017 13:56

Have you all decided the order on the application? I seem to keep changing my views so am pretty confused and we have only 10 days or so...

AveEldon · 19/10/2017 15:36

Hi, yes all done and submitted here

Do you mean the location of the school or the journey to school?

Maybe do a pros and cons of each school to help decide what's most important for you

Gettingthroughtheweek · 19/10/2017 16:17

Does anyone know if they have changed the scoring scale in the last six years? I ask because previous DC taking test between six and ten years ago all scored above 275, while latest DC has scored much lower. Doesn’t matter for entry as it’s a sibling place which we’re unlikely to take up for various reasons, but I’m surprised by the gap between them and wondered if the scales had changed. Anyone know?

helloSW15 · 19/10/2017 16:56

I’m sure I remember reading somewhere that the scales had changed in the last few years.

Kutik73 · 19/10/2017 17:20

Yes, new scales were introduced that's why we are not provided the scores more than a few years back as there is no point of comparing with the old system.

Kutik73 · 19/10/2017 17:24

Thanks Eldon. I mean both - the journey and the location. But we are planning to move so journey won't be a huge problem. We just didn't like the area sadly, so couldn't think of relocating ourselves near the school. The school was fab though.

Gettingthroughtheweek · 19/10/2017 18:33

Thanks Kutik and SW15! That makes more sense.

noitsnotteatimeyet · 20/10/2017 08:54

Funnily enough kutik the area around Graveney is the best thing about it - ime the school is massively overrated and has been resting on its laurels for a very long time but Furzedown is a lovely place to live!

hellokitty786 · 29/10/2017 13:32

Does the Verbal section include a comprehension normally?

AveEldon · 29/10/2017 13:49

no it's multiple choice VR & NVR

r7ou · 01/05/2018 10:22

Hello, I'm new to this but I am going to need to understand it all soon as my daughter is going to need to sit the Wandsworth Test.

People seem to be interchanging Wandsworth Test, GL Assessment Papers and 11 plus. Would someone mind explaining what the difference is between all three?

Many thanks!
