Trouble with new shoes

I bought eldest daughter new school shoes last week but her form tutor upon noticing them Friday marched her off to Head of Year and between them they have decided they are not shoes but trainers. She argued back that they were from the school shoe section of shop but form tutor replied of course that's what they will tell you in the shop to get your sale!

They were from the school shoe section Confused
and I've since called up the company making the shoe customer services to ask what they call them. Have code on box and name and they confirmed they are a new range of leather school shoes which I now have from them in writing.

School are adamant they are not shoes but are now calling them pumps not trainers and she was sent out of form again for wearing them and I have spoken to the next person higher than head of year. She insists they break school uniform guidelines as she thinks they are pumps so I've asked her to provide her evidence to claim this and what part of "plain black shoes, must be flat, no glitter or studs" they don't conform too.

Was promised the situation would be resolved by this morning but of course have not heard anything - how do I get a response or how long should I leave it before I take it further to find out why they feel they aren't shoes although I have it in writing they are leather shoes and complain about the teachers attitudes

Remind them how much they cost you and that you a cannot afford another pair anytime soon. But stand firm on the matter.

ladylunchalot1 · 14/03/2017 19:42

This fills me with rage I've had it and stood my ground 😡

TrojanWhore · 14/03/2017 19:43

Black leather trainers are still trainers.

It doesn't matter what the company calls them (after all, what are trainers other than a subset of shoes?)

boobyooby · 14/03/2017 19:46

It's now more the principle although they weren't cheap (are they ever!). They've called my daughter sneaky and a liar in front of the whole class when she said they were from a shoe section, sent her out of form to head of year each morning.

Form Tutor doesn't think they are shoes but I've got it in writing they are a new range of shoes for back to school 2017 campaign!! And they really are the most plain ugly flat laced up shoes you could possibly buy although very durable and sensible I could hardly believe my luck when she picked them out!!

Even JD Sports advertises them as shoes Grin

LIZS · 14/03/2017 19:48

You bought them from a sports shop and wonder why they are thought of as trainers!

hollinhurst84 · 14/03/2017 19:49

LIZS - TBF sports direct sells loads of stuff that isn't sportswear. My work shoes are from there

boobyooby · 14/03/2017 19:51

I bought them in Schuh as she wears adult sizes

ViolentDelights · 14/03/2017 19:53

Which shoes are they?

Janek · 14/03/2017 19:53

Link? Put it to the mn jury!

Sirzy · 14/03/2017 19:54

Without seeing the shoes, and the schools policy, it's hard to judge

BackforGood · 14/03/2017 19:55

What Trojan said.
Just because a shop that wants your money calls them 'suitable for school shoes' doesn't mean they comply with the uniform regulations at your dd's school.
If you feel the school uniform policy is wrong, then take that up with the senior management or get your dd to via the school council or whatever, but most schools are fairly clear what school shoes 'are' and a shop calling trainers, 'shoes' doesn't make them school shoes.

loopylulu80 · 14/03/2017 20:01

Can you post a picture or a link

boobyooby · 14/03/2017 20:05

Sorry, can't work out how to reply or attach pictures without going back to desktop site:

I'm only on phone but they are these with a thinner sole :

School policy literally is one line " must be flat, no heels plain black shoes, no glitter or studs"

I do fear for any small creatures when she walks home in the evenings (it's about 2 miles)

Trainers!

MadeForThis · 14/03/2017 20:13

They look like trainers. Sorry

Heratnumber7 · 14/03/2017 20:15

Trainers aren't made of patent leather! They look like shoes to me.

Hoppinggreen · 14/03/2017 20:16

Trainers
I'm sorry but it doesn't matter whether You, MN a shoe shop or anyone else approves of those shoes. It's up to the school and they have said that are not appropriate for school

LIZS · 14/03/2017 20:16

If they were white leather you'd be saying it was a trainer. It has no heel and the sole is one piece.

BlackHillsofDakota · 14/03/2017 20:17

They are pumps, they wouldn't be allowed at DD's school regardless of what the shop called them

MrsSeverusSnape · 14/03/2017 20:18

I'm I looking at the same thing as the other posters? They are shoes.

boobyooby · 14/03/2017 20:21

It's the company that makes them that has told me they are shoes not the shop.

I'm with you Severus.

MrsSeverusSnape · 14/03/2017 20:23

I'm glad I'm not the only one Herat, maybe there's a glitch in the matrix and we're looking at a totally different picture.
