"A star" no longer available at A-level?

My nephew is currently in the lower 6th. When I visited over Xmas he assured me that his A-levels don't offer an "A star" rating any more and that a grade A is the highest he can get.

Is this really true?

I have a feeling that he may be attempting to lower my expectations. When I Googled there was lots of conflicting explanations probably because some were out of date.

What's the correct situation?

borntobequiet - no-one has been unkind to the OP.

Expectations on young people and how they perceive them are at the heart of their ability to achieve - either by being too low, too high, too prevalent, too absent or too-miscommunicated and a applied.

If a young person is being seen to 'manage' expectations, it might be reasonable to assume that there is some discomfort.

That's all.

A simple explanation that the context is sensitive would have been fine, of course we all know there are different involvements within families.

I didn't need a passive aggressive comment on my vocabulary use in order to explain sensitivity.

Anyway, as I said, I do wish the young man well, and hope everything becomes clear (to him and the OP) and falls into place.
