How many from a primary to secondary

Is there any way you can find out how many pupils went from which primary school to a secondary school! I'm looking at catholic state.

Probably not.

Unless there is a feeder schools system, in which case the typically published entry stats for the secondary will say how many admitted in that category, and it'll be clear whether it was the tie-breaker category.

Probably only by asking a Y6 or 7 teacher. I was wondering which secondaries kids from our primary went to, and the answer was over 30 different ones! There's only 60 kids! Obviously a town with only a couple secondaries nearby would be very different.

Secondary school office should be able to tell you. I doubt Y7 teachers will (they won't be involved in the admissions side of things).

A primary will know the destination of its leavers.
A secondary will know broadly where its intake is from.
This year our secondary took from 40 primaries, probably around 60 from one school down to 1 only from a number of schools.

Is there a reason you want to know, or just general interest?

Just general interest! Would like to get a feel for how much of a chance we've got!

Last years admissions stats will be available on the website or from your LEA. They won't tell you stats from individual schools (unless attending an individual school is an admission criteria) but you will be able to see how other children in your "group" fared.

In particular, you need to look at the admissions categories, and work out which category you are in. Then looking at the info from the LEA you can see whether you would or would not have got in over the past few years.

eg suppose it goes

1. Looked After
2. Catholic Siblings
3. Catholics at listed schools
4. Other Catholics
5. Other Siblings
6. Others

And you are in group 4. You can see whether all group 4s usually get in, or is there a distance cutoff, and if so what the distance tends to be.

Your own school probably publishes where Yr 6 leavers go. Ours listed them in one of the newsletters at the end of Yr 6. Not child by child but 17 to x school, 9 to y.

But it's the admissions criteria and how you meet them that count.
