We pay by standing order into their bank accounts

RaingodswithZippos · 23/10/2016 19:21

Standing order here too. £25 per month, but we pay for all school trips, clothes, books, travel costs etc in addition. DS also has a part time job.

GoHenry prepaid card

JustSpeakSense · 23/10/2016 19:23

We pay directly into their bank accounts. £25 a month, older DS has a job, he usually gives me the cash he earns and I transfer equivalent into his bank account.

Standing order into his bank account.

BoinkAlongQuietly · 23/10/2016 19:29

Mobile phones even.

dementedpixie · 23/10/2016 19:44

I wouldn't use gohenry as it's not a bank account and they charge you each month whereas a bank account is free

Blu · 23/10/2016 20:01

The Halifax card lets you set limits for withdrawals, where it can be used etc.

Lots of good cards specifically for U16s.

My nearly 14 year old has an Osper card but I am going to change his savings account to an account with a card and start putting the money in there instead. As someone pointed out above, Osper and Go Henry cards attract a fee and there is no interest. They are practical if you don't want to go through the money laundering hassles of opening or changing a bank account though.

He gets £15 on his Osper card and £10 cash each month. When we've sorted out his bank account I'll put £25 in his account each month. I also pay his mobile phone as I want him to have one. I buy his clothes but eg when he needed new football boots for school he wanted expensive ones. So I said I'd pay £25 and if he wanted the more expensive ones he had to pay the difference so that's what we did.

Osper, so easy to use and monitor

£25 / month Direct Debit paid by my OH into child's Santander 123 Mini account which can be spend on treats, transport or going to the cinema with friends. I only pay cash if chores in or around the house are completed to a high standard. An 'Outstanding' grade or a 'top mark' in any school subject will also result in earning them cash which is then added by themselves into a separate saving account and spent around Christmas time on new gadgets or new phones.

Threeschools · 25/10/2016 16:21

Drivingmadness · 27/10/2016 10:08

Standing order into Santander accounts here too - each gets double their age per month!
