Government u-turn on compulsory Y7 SATs resits

The government is abandoning its plan to make Y6s who fail to meet the expected standard in the KS2 SATs resit their SATs in Y7.

Hopefully now that they realise that labelling a child a failure aged 11 isn't helpful, they might also rethink other proposals.

This is excellent news, but it does rather show that the government don't have a coherent or even workable plan regarding education.

That's excellent news, now they just need to scrap them all together.

Wonderful

scrapping the tests is not going to happen but at least they have seen some sense in realising that continual testing does not make a pupil pass the test. They would be far better employed in asking the question why were there so many pupils who could and probably should have met the required standard but not meeting the standard and what are the school doing about it.

Great news!

Can they now please send the KS2 SPAG tests to follow the KS1 tests to the dustbin of history?

Hope Michael Gove and Nicky Moron are gnashing their teeth.
