English department has just sent out a letter about 19th century literature. It gives a list of books that DC should read and recommends that they should go on youtube and listen to the audio version. Is this normal? And if it is, does anyone have any experience that listening to it is as good as reading it?

I mean my DC isn't a fan of 19th century literature but if I made him read it he would. However he is able to logically refute my argument by saying the teacher actually recommends he watch youtube and he can concentrate better on the weird language is he listens to it rather than trying to figure out how to pronounce it.

First book on list is Lord of the Flies and I have checked on you tube, it is literally just an audio reading of the original book, no visuals. Am I being a bit ancient or is audio just as good for a GCSE course?
