Miles and time wise please

Trying to work out if a potential school is too far.

1.2 miles, 25 minutes walk.

Where we are, most kids walk or bike to their local schools. Only the ones at grammar schools take buses or trains etc. (they're coming from further afield).

Ds - 7 miles between 20-40 mins by car

Dd - 46 miles - takes about an hour, sometimes a bit longer.

Door to door in about 30 minutes. Approx 12 mins walk to station. 8 mins train journey and 10 mins walk to school. School is 7 miles away in next town. We are in a grammar area so train full of school children.

3 miles, 40 mins commute foot and tube.

One point to add on top of commute complexities....the bags, bags and more bags!! Obviously this is dependent on how sporty/musical your kids are...

Dss- 5 miles, train then walk/cycle(train going away from London in morning so able to take bike)

Ds- 5 miles, bus then walk up step hill (Chilterns!). He likes pottering in the sweet shop the small market town has after school. Pain in the bum when he mislays his wallet over night in the summer, as no blazer in summer to keep it in!

Four miles, about 15 minutes in a dedicated school bus. We are rural so, barring accidents, there are no traffic jams.

Ds1 - 12 miles. 5 minute drive to station. Train 7.40am 30 minute train, 10 minute walk. Pick him up from train station at 4.30pm

Ds2 -5 mikes, 15-20 minutes by car, or two buses -25 minutes

Both schools are grammar schools, so not nearest schools.

It's not the distance but ease of transport/time that makes the difference. Therefore, someone living nearer a school but off a bus route can take longer than someone on a direct boys/train route.

13 miles - 50 mins on bus, but bus stop very near our house so virtually no walking.

DS found it tough in Y8, but agrees he'd rather do it than go to the school nearby which has poor exam results

AngieBolen · 10/06/2016 07:02

If he had an after school match or detention Its a 1.5 hour round trip, and I have to take DD with me.

lovelyupnorth · 10/06/2016 07:03

Less than a mile about 4 mins on school bus. No pavements so classed as dangerous road.

Helmetbymidnight · 10/06/2016 07:10

2o min walk but then we're in very, very crowded south east- I wouldn't expect to get involved in driving miles here.

Blu · 10/06/2016 18:18

10 minute-ish walk.

Love it. Adds to the quality of ours and his life in so many ways.

I did 2 buses, it was OK, but I didn't like friends being spread out, and we got up to all sorts on the bus.
