Here we are everyone.

Does DS win the prize for the earliest AS exam? Wednesday 27 April i.e next week (gulp!) It's a practical, so I suppose the school has scheduled it, not the exam board. DS then has 10 AS exams, all of which count towards his final A-levels, between then and 17 June. That's then followed by a week of school exams in his one reformed A-level subject, which means he finishes on 23 June. It's going to be a very long haul....

TeenAndTween · 21/04/2016 20:45

DD has oral exam day before that namechange worth 30% then one exam just before half term and that's it as she's only doing 1 A level (along with a BTEC). I'm so glad she's not doing a full set, I couldn't cope with the stress.

bigTillyMint · 21/04/2016 21:04

Flipping heck namechange - that sounds gruellingSad

HSMMaCM · 21/04/2016 21:31

I am so so so pleased DD doesn't have as many exams as some of your DC. 4 is enough for us.

It's tough isn't it? With exams starting in April that's only 7.5 months after the start of the AS curriculum!

DD is revising with a boy in the loft. He might stay the night. Any hints and tips? He's not a boyfriend apparently he's practically a sibling. Grin

He's not staying the night after all Grin

Dilemma resolved HSM.

Having been away for a few days on business, it's amazing how all the trials of exams evaporate. Even now in the taxi from the airport it all seems a world away. Yet as soon as I step in the house and see the books, the notes, the chewing gum, I know my heart will sink.

I have brought the kids loads of treats. Hopefully they will bring a few smiles.

bigTillyMint · 23/04/2016 08:55

That's what they all say HSMWink

Anyone doing their practical exams at the moment? We have graphics ongoing.

Maths is proving to be an issue, failed his mocks and not doing well in tests, so emergency tutor being sought.

He's also being asked which subject he should drop, but says he still has to do 4 subjects so has to pick up something new, but can't tell me what the new options are, so I'm slightly confused. College website has no information on it about final year options.

HSMMaCM · 23/04/2016 09:44

DD is doing practical dance and drama stuff. She's suddenly doing really badly in classics which she lived up until a few weeks ago. Psychology is an unknown.

She can drop one next year without replacing it if she wants to.

dd3 has done her practical performance for her music AS and is now concentrating on writing her composition. This is done totally in sixthform thank goodness. Smile

She sat one of the example papers in Physics for the first time (it is a new one) and she said it was harder than the old ones. No result yet.

Good luck with the whole boy / friend situation HSMM. Don't Envy you there!

GetAHaircutCarl · 23/04/2016 10:56

DD did her drama practical before Easter.

Good to get it out if the way.

ono40 · 23/04/2016 19:50

HSM - sounded like you had a boy living in your loft just so DD had a revision companion!

DS is ill again with sore throat and fever, I am fed up of this now. I am sure the hospital has his results but they don't give them to patients over the phone but at least now I don't feel a fraud making a GP appointment for him next week.

namechange - how many subjects I your DC doing?? 10 AS exams seems like an awful lot! Shock

HSMMaCM · 23/04/2016 22:09

DD is out babysitting tonight. She took her college bag with her. Do you think she's revising?

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 24/04/2016 11:49

Ono, hope they can pinpoint what it is.

HSM, babysitting could be good on the revision front - less distractions than at home?

Here DD went to one of her besties 17th party last night. Had a fab night and rolled in at 2am (it was only up the road) but has been up watching psychology videos on YouTube since 10am apparently!

HSMMaCM · 24/04/2016 12:06

Babysitting was good for revision. She said her classics books are starting to make sense now. She had plenty of time, because they were due home at 1030 and rolled in after midnight! Luckily DD is a night owl.

She's coming out for lunch with us, then wants dh to re-shave the back of her head. She has a day off work today, because they wouldn't let her work on crutches. (Sprained ankle and of course I'm not worried about her ballet exam in 2 weeks)

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 24/04/2016 12:32

That's good, HSM. Hope her ankle mends quickly.

namechange7711 · 24/04/2016 14:26

ono - hope you get the results of your DS' blood tests soon. I assume he's being tested for glandular fever is he? We also know a boy who's been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid who was constantly ill/tired etc before being diagnosed.

Yes, DS1 has 10 AS exams coming up. He's doing 4 unreformed A-levels (hence 10 AS exams) including General Studies, which his school gives them no choice over. He's also doing one reformed subject, but the school has not put them in for AS exams for that subject, so he'll just do end-of-year exams in that one. However, it's still important because the school will use those results to predict A-level grades on university applications.

In fact, looking at DS's exam timetable I've just noticed there are two additional entries which say "Not timetabled" so have sent DS off to check what on earth that means. Hopefully there aren't yet more exams to be slotted in....

bigTillyMint · 24/04/2016 17:29

namechange, I did General Studies back in the Dark Ages - thought it was long gone!

namechange7711 · 25/04/2016 14:09

Yes, me too. No idea why the school puts them in for it - none of the universities I've investigated give any credit for it.

HSMMaCM · 25/04/2016 14:13

I was put in for whatever the equivalent of general studies was when I was at sixth form. I just never went Grin

OP posts:
teta · 25/04/2016 14:16

Me too and I loved it.I loved essay writing and really enjoyed the sorts of topics that came up.We used to have interesting Philosophical discussions about all sorts of things in our Gen studies lessons. It was a real break from my Sciences.

namechange7711 · 25/04/2016 16:07

DS1 seems to have done ballroom dancing, first aid and putting up a shelf under the guise of his "General Studies" lessons. Grin Not sure any of that is likely to come up in the comprehension exercises, but it sounds like fun anyway.
