Here we are everyone.

OP posts:
SmallCarrot · 03/04/2016 18:43

Me too Littlehams.

EricNorthmanSucks · 03/04/2016 20:02

TBF I work at a university and Ive never had any dealings with over involved parents.

Just young adults who are generally fineSmile.

LittlehamHums · 03/04/2016 22:24

It has been deleted now to protect the privacy of the poster. Isn't there a famous Ancient Roman inscription moaning about young people?

EricNorthmanSucks · 04/04/2016 08:38

Oh yes, adults have been moaning about teens since time began and making generalisations about them as if they were a homogenous bunch.

Yesterday we were listening to someone on the radio bewailing how all teens spend all their time in their rooms on games. We were on our way to watch DS play sport. Along with thousands of other parents up and down the country every single Sunday Wink.

Similarly, I read in the Sunday paper how teens are no longer creative (too many exams apparently) as my DD spent hours spray painting a huge pair of angel wings onto her bedroom wall.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 04/04/2016 09:39

I guess that happens for lots of other groups of people too Eric? I'm thinking especially women and also mothers ... men, not so much?!

Sometimes on here the "answer" to a thread is actually there are a diversity of experiences and views here, let's agree to disagree?!

But yes, any large enough group of people, such as teenagers, and they won't all think and behave the same as each other

The angel wings sound great! My DD has just started a little knitting project ... knitting a snail for her DBro Smile

She's away for a few days on a youth residential thing - hope she's enjoying that and won't be too stressed when she gets back and has only 6 days before she's back to school for the summer term. I'm hoping a proper break doing something different with friends will do her good. And gives me a chance to get on DS's case about some music practice before his audition next weekend.

LittlehamHums · 04/04/2016 10:19

When I had my first child someone told me that society would consider me to be in the wrong no matter what I did.

The angel wings sound beautiful. My dc have spent a lot of time on music in a school where music is non existent. Not lazing around doing nothing. And anyway quite a lot of teens stayed in their bedrooms in past times and seem to have survived.

Some people clearly strolled out of the womb as perfect examples of humanity ready to dispense judgement on all the less fortunate creatures around them. Pah!

SmallCarrot · 04/04/2016 10:24

People moan about teenagers ad nauseum on the local spotted page Angry, whatever goes wrong locally is blamed on teenagers. Apparently the drunk drivers that rampage through the town's streets are all teenagers and their parents and teachers should be ashamed of them Confused

I just went into DD's room to get a charger since they all seem to grow legs and walk there, she's got a pile of canvasses stacked up that she's finished, a mural on her wall and numerous paintings that she's done, plus her study materials for her course - she's trained as a swimming instructor recently. But, of course, she's a lazy good for nothing teenager if you believe some. She won't be out drunk driving tonight as we're going to watch DS in a tennis tournament.

Excuse me while I go and put my soapbox away!

LittlehamHums · 04/04/2016 10:43

Here is the ancient quote about teenagers but there seems some confusion as to who wrote the words. Confused

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

aginghippy · 04/04/2016 13:14

Thanks Littleham. I love the idea that crossing their legs was something to complain about Grin

DD has booked to go to a university open day Shock There I was thinking she felt too overwhelmed to do anything.

She is still unsure about everything, but her friend is going to this open day and she decided to go too. No input from me needed.

EricNorthmanSucks · 04/04/2016 16:12

Well I'm officially losing the will to live!

Post Easter I generally work very few hours out of the house and am working even fewer because of DC's exams.

I am here. I am smiling. I am making cups of tea and sandwiches. I am helping with revision timetables. I am testing...I am soooooo bored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SmallCarrot · 04/04/2016 16:18

I'm losing the will to live too Eric, DD is an expert at piling on the pressure and has presented me with her shortlist of universities, she's now added Cambridge to the list and the minimum A level grades are AAB. I'm glad she's ambitious but she needs one with lower than AAB doesn't she?
She's predicted A*AAB in her AS levels.

Oh Draylon ((hugs)). You are not the worst mother in the world, sorry, that award belongs to me because I "made" DS go on a revision course last week (which he admitted was useful) and because I will not let his friend sleepover tonight. This friend is at college doing a BTEC and so has no exams looming. I hate sleepovers as no actual sleeping takes place and DS would be grumpier than ever tomorrow. Grrr......

At least the Iceland trip might be considered a form of 'revision' for geography?

I am the worst mother ever, because I would not take time off work to take DD to meet her friend at the shops when she was supposed to be revising. She caught the bus

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 04/04/2016 22:40

I'm the worst mother ever because I wouldn't let 16 year old ds attend an all night party.

bigTillyMint · 05/04/2016 10:19

I am not at home nagging encouraging, so I think I must be the worst mother!

I actually would prefer to be doing that than clearing DMs house - so much to chuck!

Fairenuff · 05/04/2016 10:32

Draylon how's the hangover today? Grin

Ds has gone into school for a revision session. He has all sorts of diagrams and drawings plastered all over his bedroom so at least something is happening.

GetAHaircutCarl · 05/04/2016 11:14

Tis I the twins mum, have name changed again Smile.

I have found the will to live again today!!!

Brought on partly because DC are going on DofE expedition this weekend and DH are off to Devon. Hotels booked. Also, assisted by an email about work asking how I'm getting on with the scripts and can I fly over to see the money men soon, preferably with drafts...nothing like a swift kick up the arse to make you work!!! I'm on a roll.

LittlehamHums · 05/04/2016 15:36

Have a good weekend in Devon.

If none of you have run away from home by the Easter holidays then you are all good mother's.

Dd3s bedroom is the tidiest I have ever seen it. Procrastination rules.

Ive always fancied Iceland. Don't know why I've never been.

DH and I have started watching Trapped and all that grey glacial remoteness is so atmospheric.

We were wondering though why so few hats and scarves were worn.

bigTillyMint · 05/04/2016 20:09

Iceland seems very popular this year - I know about 10 different people who have recently gone. Must be the TV prog effect!

Spoke with DD earlier - she is revising (at least some of the timeWink but is worried about how much there is still to do. I predict panic - stations and melt - down very soon. It's crap being on the exam treadmill.

DD has a friend coming over today to help her with her psychology revision. I suspect she's having trouble learning it because she hasn't even OPENED THE BOOK!!!!
