What's the protocol for buying teacher gifts at Secondary? Is it the done thing for Year 7 boys?

No, it's not the done thing for anyone.

Secondary teachers get bugger all, except possibly from Y11 and Y13 when they do their exams.

Haggisfish · 13/12/2015 19:45

No, it's not generally done, but a card with a thank you in it is fab. Occasionally I get some chocolates and am thrilled!

Leeds2 · 13/12/2015 20:44

Not typical.

Haffdonga · 13/12/2015 20:57

Mine point blank refused even to countenance giving a card, let alone a gift from Yr 7 on. Just Not Cool, sadly.

Scarydinosaurs · 13/12/2015 21:00

I got some lovely cards and gifts from my form- one year they all clubbed together and got me a bracelet! Sometimes if they really like a teacher you'll get things. Not usual though.

Haggisfish · 13/12/2015 21:25

Oh I know the kids often refuse to write a card-it's nice to get a parental thank you card, which they will begrudgingly hand over, though!

Not done at my DC school

Madmog · 14/12/2015 10:42

No, even if I wrapped present up myself and put it in DD's bag, she wouldn't be seen dead handing it over. Have told her when she finishes comp, I'll be sending a personal thank you to teachers she/we feel have really supported her though (you can contact teachers personally on the school's email).

BrendaandEddie · 14/12/2015 10:48

they dont

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 14/12/2015 18:08

Social suicide according to ds.

sassytheFIRST · 14/12/2015 18:10

If you feel the need to, send a box of quality street in for the staffroom.

sassytheFIRST · 14/12/2015 18:11

It is a bit Crap tho. My primary colleagues have to take a low loader to work on the last day for all their presents. I get nowt.

ItchyArmpits · 14/12/2015 18:12

Teachers don't expect anything.

Thank you notes are lovely though (more treasured if they come in the student's handwriting).

sassytheFIRST · 14/12/2015 18:15

Tbf, I don't need or really want presents myself. I do the job, and I'm paid. But the difference at primary is staggering to us sec types

Decorhate · 16/12/2015 18:20

However, if you want to hand in a tin of biscuits or sweets to Reception yourself, to be put in the staff room, they will be much appreciated!

originalmavis · 16/12/2015 18:26

DS did this year but he's at a school that goes to 13, so maybe he wouldn't if he was at secondary. Probably not 'cool' or whatever the kids say these days!

Fyaral · 16/12/2015 18:37

I dont expect anything but this year I have had nice soap and home made sweets from two y7 lovely girls. Last year I got fluffy socks off a y8 boy and the year before some shower gel with a twix sellotaped to it. Grin

Nothing is expected but anything is lovely and appreciated.
