Mock exam week & DS not confident

Yep! Cs, Ds, an E and a U in mocks. 10 A and A stars in the real things. She somehow managed to find a work ethic after Christmas, and spent 10 hours revising each weekend plus an hour each evening.

Last year (Y10), DS1 took one subject a year early. He got a U in the mock, and was still getting D grades in the past papers he did in March. In the actual exam, he got an A (two marks off an A*)

Well I did, but that was quite a few years ago! Couldn't see the point of revising for mock exams that didn't matter. I remember getting 18% in English Lit and about 25% in English and the teacher throwing a wobbly, but ended up getting As in both.

It's like a friendly footy match isn't it really? Rare is the student who is going to give his all at that stage. Especially knowing it just isn't going to matter that much.

Yes it's possible have seen it happen with some of my students. It's hard to achieve top grades in mocks when they haven't yet completed the course. Most pupils grades increase by 1 or 2 grades between now and June.
A word of caution: in some subjects e.g. Science and Maths, teachers may use results to (provisionally) decide on tiers of entry so dcs do need to do well enough to make sure they can take Higher tier/ cover the higher tier work needed. Mock grades could also be used if pupils are absent (due to illness) in the real exams.

Yes. DS turned Ds and Es in triple science into As.

Biggest surprise was a History E to an A, especially as DS had decided there was no hope, he would concentrate on his other exams, and did not one jot of history revision after the mocks.

I did sod all for the mocks And then got my are in gear for,the real thing.

What did scare me into never doing that again was my mate who was hospitalised with appendicitis the day of our first GCSE. So they just used the mock grades instead. Scary stuff.

Yes, mainly Cs and fails to all higher grades/passes, including some As and Bs. Think the biggest leap was U to B in English Lit. No idea how it happened as didn't seem to put much of an effort in.
