Hi. We are a British family living overseas at the moment. My daughter has just had an assessment for this school and liked it, there is some family history there and also it is really handy for Grandparents who live close by.

I do understand that a lot of kids go home on Saturdays for about 24 hours.

Does anyone know anyone there, or recently left? I know they have a new head just started. I met him at the assessment and he seemed really nice.

My daughter is very capable academically and to be honest a bit of a perfectionist. She is not into traditional sports ( well, never done them as at an International school... They do volleyball, crossfit and soccer).

My main concerns are that she puts a lot of pressure on herself already. I would live her to be in a thriving busy enquiring environment but not too much pressure.

I find the 'public' school system a bit confusing as I am from a computer background but my husband was in this system, he is really keen for us to do this for our kids too if we can. DD really wants to go, she is excited to leave her little tiny school!

Thank you for that. How about the academics. Do they push the kids enough? My ds is very bright but can be lazy.

Both will have high expectations most parents are paying for results but no school can force the lazy pupil to work hard, and most will also expect 6th formers to be pretty self motivated.

If your DS is bright - and he would not have been offered 6th form places if he was not - he will fulfill his potential in sixth form in both of these schools. At Kings, the staff encourage the students to work hard - and take a dim view of any who do not. But I think most of the pushing comes from the students themselves - and from the peer group. It is decidedly uncool not to get good results. So your DS will work hard to fit in. We have never had to push our DCs. It comes from them.
Fwiw, I think many clever students are not particularly inspired by the GCSE/IGCSE courses and may come across as lazy. They know they will pass with good grades with a modicum of effort. I think ALevel/preU is more interesting and this inspires them to work harder.
Your DS will need to learn to motivate himself if he is to do well at University. For me this is one of the most important deliverables in 6th form education. But I think to an extent it comes anyway with growing maturity.
