Is it far too early to be looking a Uni for DD in year 12?

Just that really.
Will Uni's even welcome students a year early?

No, not too early, lots of Y12 students are looking around now. If your dd books an open day many universities will have a box to tick for entry in 2017.

Thanks Oddboots.

Absolutely not too early. It really focussed DS1 on his ASs. It also helped him narrow down his choices. He is quite pleased this term he has his choices sorted and can concentrate on his A levels

We started looking at subjects in year 12 and did a few subject open days. DD had to narrow subject down so she knew what and where might be on the shortlist.

Students contemplating Oxbridge or Medicine need to submit UCAS forms by October 15, and the school deadline is usually September 15 with draft personal statements in the previous July. Of course those students are going to open days in Year 12. And sometimes Year 11.

I wish we'd looked in Yr12 - having seen them at the start of Yr13, University became 'real' for ds and more of an incentive than 'doing well in his A-levels' ever was.
I suppose it depends on the child. My dd has now just started 6th form, and, tbh, her mind is blown at the moment - she's finding the jump up in work HUGE, added in to the fact she's moved to a different school, is having to get used to everything being new, and not having her friends around her, etc.,etc, and we're just trying to keep everything else really low key for her, so - for her it would just be too much to add into the mix.

Not too early but bear in mind some of what they say might change. For example, my DD got an academic scholarship but the year after they changed it. Her modules also change over time as does thedestination of the year 1 international trip.

BackforGood, same here. Glad it's not just my DD!
Thankfully she doesn't want to do anything medical and wouldn't contemplate Oxbridge even if she got the grades.
