Strangest Open Day experiences

As Open Day season is approaching, I thought I'd kick off with one of my own Grin

Went to visit a local independent for 4+ entry. The tour guides (year 6 pupils) did a lovely greeting until we got to the reception and year one classes, when they announced loudly 'and this is where the boys and girls just play most of the day, because they aren't old enough to learn much yet!' The teacher's face was a picture...

At the same school we accidentally walked into a barney between two of the staff over a lunch rota, and the headmistress had to intervene.

I'm sure there are much more extreme experiences out there!

The girl who toured us round a very posh boarding school, took my DDs phone number, and then texted her to say she was leaving and my DD would be mad to go there! We somewhat agreed with her!

Kingsdale open day: repeat of last year's deranged boasting by the head. It really was too much. He went on and on and on, making veiled digs at other local schools and terrible puns.

It was actually quite bonkers.

The private school that had a giant penis & bollocks graffitied on the wall. I can't believe it hadn't been cleaned off before the open day. At least it was biologically correct I s'pose

My Dd, year 6, has been visited by a film star head teacher at school yesterday. You know the one from 'Educating Cardiff'. DD not impressed, would rather go to the open evenings at other schools in the vicinty.

all the Y7s in dd's school had to give tours last year despite only having joined a few weeks before

When the family Dd was showing round asked to see the maths department, Dd airily said "oh we don't have one of those" as she'd completely forgotten where it was!

Apparently the family were very Hmm...Grin

I am hugely grateful to the y6 child who 3 years ago (so will be a y9 somewhere now) while giving us a tour of a local school managed to say to us sotto voce as we passed between classrooms "we are not actually that lucky to have him as our head" - it helped click into place why the slick perfect presentation seemed false somehow. So glad DS didn't end up going there.

My Ds1 said to me, in the car afterwards, 'I am not going to that school, the presentation was so plastic'
