So now ds has started year 7 he brings his games & Pe kit home every time he uses it
So where do you store it ?
Do I wash it and put it in the wardrobe & expect him to pack it when he needs it ?

DD does the same and i wash it and she packs it straight back into her sports bag. She keeps that in her bedroom until she needs to take it to school.

Lilaclily · 08/09/2015 10:47

Oh and while I'm at it Grin
Where do I put his school books that he doesn't need each day
Currently they're on the kitchen table
I'm trying to keep him organised but can't get my head around where all this stuff should go

It moulders in the bag between lessons unless you force them to hand it over!

Train him NOW. When you get in after PE/games everything you've worn goes in the wash and you start the machine and remember to take it out after :)

With a non hormonal 11yr old playing 11yr olds games this is overkill and a wash every few weeks is probably all it needs, but he'll soon be a 13/14yr old rolling in the mud and then it really will need a wash,on it's own every time!

Got a spare shelf or two? Where does he do his homework? Clear a shelf in that room to accommodate books, make room in a cupboard for school and pe bag.

We've just cleared a couple of shelves to put rucksacks on, rather than having them lying around in hallways etc. PE bags live in their bedrooms.

OldBeanbagz · 08/09/2015 10:51

Books are kept either in her locker at school or in a storage box in her bedroom. Her outstanding mountain of homework is on the dining table.

Lilaclily · 08/09/2015 10:52

Ah I see Helen!
So wash it every time
Put it away
Let him repack
And I guess muddy football boots will live in the porch

Lilac
We have some ikea Kallax shelving
www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80275887/

In theory books that are not needed are stored on those. We also have some drawers in the bottom which are useful for stationery, sellotape, inumerable glue sticks and rulers ...

AuntieStella · 08/09/2015 10:56

We rearranged bedrooms so there was space for a desk, and books not needed that day sit at home.

PE kit is (generally) kept in its sports bag (when not in the wash).

Knowing the PE kit days is the main reason for harassing the DC to make sure they give me a copy of their timetable the very first day so I can work out best times to put on a wash. Their fault after that if they've not put things in laundry baskets and they have to go stinky. But until puberty is in full swing, once a week is probably going to be enough. Unless you have a muddy rugby player or cross country runner.

One DC is very, very sporty, so it was worth getting several changes of games kit. So there's one in the bag and the rest in a drawer (jammed in with the mountain of club stuff).

littledrummergirl · 08/09/2015 22:20

Mine have a plastic storage box under their desks for books and folders.

Pe kit is washed every weekend, ironed and hung on the banister for them to leave until they next need it put away.
They have separate kits for games, pe, swimming etc so only wear each kit once a week.

AtiaoftheJulii · 09/09/2015 07:21

On a PE day, my kids bring their bag home, put their kit on the washing machine straightaway on a short wash, then hang it up to dry and repack their bag ready for the next lesson. I don't have much to do with the process! Will sometimes get the wet stuff out of the machine if I'm there when it finishes, but it's their responsibility. And yes, they have done this since y7.

Books - we have bookshelves in our kitchen, so I cleared each a shelf there.

AtiaoftheJulii · 09/09/2015 07:22

(They do put the kit in the washing machine, not just on, which wouldn't be so useful!)

WankerDeAsalWipe · 09/09/2015 07:29

Mine only get or twice a week so they have 2 sets and they get washed at the weekend. PE kit consists of school t shirt at ??5 and any plain back bottoms or shorts. They carry all their books with them all the time but get most subjects daily and a lift to and from school.

yeOldeTrout · 09/09/2015 08:12

PE kit Lives in the school locker & comes home once a term to be washed, except swim stuff comes home to be rinsed straight away. Mine don't get muddy (shrug).

Shelves near door for each kid's school books & bags.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 09/09/2015 08:17

Is the kit not banging on the door of the locker begging to get out by the end of term trout?

Mine aren't particularly sweaty (make no effort!) but they do often get wet from being out in the rain so kit would be walking about on it's own if left.
