PE in Secondary school

Not sure if it matters, but DD gone into Yr 9,timtable is split over 2 weeks, weeks A&B. In yrs 7 & 8 she did PE twice a week.. her new timetable for Yr 9 has 4 PE sessions in week B and none in week A.... so she goes a whole week with no PE. Was just wondering if that is OK, or are schools meant to have PE every week?

Don't know about the requirement but it sounds a bit rubbish although I imagine it is a timetabling limitation. My DS has a similar ridiculous timetable where he has 4 lessons of a subject (not PE), but they are on Thursday and Friday of Week A and Monday and Tuesday of Week B. So 4 consecutive school days and then nothing for the next 6!!

It is a bit rubbish isn't it... thought there might have been a 'rule' that they have to have some physical exercise every week?

I'm not sure I count school PE as great physical exercise!! DS only has 3 lessons of PE per fortnight (though they are split 1 lesson and 2 lessons between weeks). 1 hour of sport (when it's not actually the full hour of actually doing sport by the time they've changed and got sorted) is hardly a big deal.

If you are keen on your daughter being fit and healthy, don't just rely on school to do it! I'm sure there are lots of clubs and activities which she could do outside of school to keep fit. If she is already doing some then you don't have a problem, if she isn't then it's a good chance to take something up or join an after-school club. She could do something as simple and cheap as running or doing an exercise DVD. In an ideal world, I'm sure she should do PE each week but as the timetable runs over a fortnight the hours are probably allowed to be counted over that two week period as well. Presumably it is a timetabling problem.

Easier to keep kit clean, though. I would be fine about it.

Most schools work on a fortnightly timetable and you do get imbalances. That does seem a poor one, but, I agree with everyone else - do not rely on a PE lesson for their exercise and physical fitness. If that is an issue for you then she needs to be doing something outside of school.
