What to do about the Daydreaming

BlueBelle123 · 01/09/2015 21:32

My DD's daydreaming has cost her at least a grade in her GCSE's, after the shock of her results sunk in she admitted what I had suspected that very little revision had gone on and in fact she had spent most of her time daydreaming (hmm) . Now she is about to embark on A levels any advice on curbing her daydreaming tendencies?

Counselling. It would really be worth the investment. I'm still daydreaming at 57.

Oh no I was hoping it was something that she would grow out of!

Encourage dd to join revision groups or revise with dd. Break revision into small chunks that dd then presents to you. Ds is a daydreamer and has the most amazing abilities to zone out. If it is very severe it may be worth looking into assessment. Ds was diagnosed Attention Defficit Disorder, when ds was very young it was soul destroying trying to keep him on task.

I thought of the possibility of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) as well. I'd visit the GP and explain whats going on and perhaps get a referral to CAMHS for assessment.

Mindfulness is worth a go. There are absolute ton of resources online, search for the small exercises, not the full on stuff just yet. It's for bringing you into the moment and focusing. Look up maladaptive daydreaming as well, it can be a real issue.

I would also think about psychotherapy, people who lose themselves in fantasy are often struggling with their reality a bit.
