Starting Yr12, Chemistry A Level and Chemistry AS

DD just about to start 6th form college. She wants to do Chemistry A level, which is now 'linear'.

The college will allow the students to take Chemistry AS at the end of Yr12, if they want - however the marks will not count towards the A Level.

Will she be able to use the points accrued from the AS exam towards her UCAS application?

I'm a tad bewildered by all of the changes to the AS/A levels for the students beginning their sixth form in Sept 15 - is it straightforward or am I just daft?

I think she can as long as she isn't going to continue with the course, i.e. stop after AS

she would know whether she was carrying on by the time she makes her UCAS application- this has a deadline of early January in her A2 year

If she only does the first year (AS) this will accrue UCAS points but not the equivalent of a half A level. (40% I think) . If she goes on to do the 2nd year then she will essentially be examined on the first year in more detail plus 2nd year stuff. In this case she will gain UCAS credits for the whole A level.

What glamorous said. The UCAS points from the AS will only be counted if she doesn't continue with the A2.
