Is this a record? (school uniform minimal spend!)

Well DS1 has left school and is off to college so I only have 2 DC at school for the first time in 100 years...

Both say their nice cotton school shirts are still fine; both say the same about their blazers (new last year and usually do 2 years); DS2 certainly needs new trousers and I think I will persuade DD into a new (slightly longer!) school skirt; maybe some new socks/tights...

Most amazingly, neither of them needs new school shoes - they are worn but still wearable and I guess we have got to the stage where their feet don't grow so much (to be fair DS2 tore his during the year so his current pair aren't that old).

I seem to have a total spend of about £30 - can anyone beat that?

Of course this doesn't include stationery

I wish. £275 on DS, plus £30 on trainers, still need to buy coat and shoes (he has changed schools so needed everything) for the girls I need 2 cardigans, about £32, plus school bag, PE bag, OE top, shoes and plimsolls x 2

YeOldeTrout · 16/08/2015 05:39

Sorry, you mean just spending because it's almost September & you always do an annual upgrade/update spend?

I'm not expecting to spend anything on DS who will start yr11 in a few weeks. I guess he'll need new shoes before June.

AnOddOod · 16/08/2015 08:37

I'm doing ok too. Dd1 needed shoes& PE socks.
Dd2 PE socks
Dd3 shoes , polo shirts , trousers, pinafores ( but all asda so cheap!)
Last year I did all 3 from scratch after growth spurts.

knittedyogurt · 16/08/2015 09:21

This year is our cheapest so far - dd is going into year 10 & has stopped growing! Still I needed to get shoes (sale buy £26), blazer (£30), blouses (£45), PE socks (£6) and stationery of course Hmm

She's 'lost' her shin pads & hockey boots for the third year running so I'm making her pay for those to be replaced.

YeOldeTrout · 16/08/2015 10:13

I'm in intense negotiations with DD who has long list of stuff she NEEDS for start of yr9. Including blazer (old one looks fine to me), pencil case ("everyone deserves a change!") and other items. Will be at least £100 for all of it not including any shoes. Showdown coming soon.

TeenAndTween · 16/08/2015 13:51

It will be cheap for me this term I think for uniform.

DD2 definitely won't need school shoes as she had some around Easter. I think the only thing she may need is a new school skirt.

DD1 is off to 6th form.

On the other hand, DD1 will probably need new shoes and clothes for 6th form, as she probably doesn't have enough to withstand 7 days a week
wear, plus will need some trendier stuff.

Perhaps it will be expensive after all Grin

PettsWoodParadise · 16/08/2015 14:47

Only socks and shoes this year. DD is going into Y6 so after years of having oversized clothes will have a year of fitting or very snug clothes! I have heard rumours though that Y6 have a 'graduation ball' so maybe my thrift will be undone after all, but that is a whole new thread...

GreenTee · 16/08/2015 15:05

I have spent around £50 so far. DS (7) needed new polos, trousers, socks, underwear, trainers, PE shorts, lunch bag, water bottle and school bag.

We still need to get him new shoes, 2x jumpers, PE bag with school logo and swimming things for school rather than using his home swimming shorts. All of that will cost us around another £50.

£100 approx in total.

clary · 16/08/2015 15:08

Well oldtrout I normally expect to spend on schooliform at this time of year because people have grown out of stuff, that's all. If things are needed midway through then I buy them, but if nothing new was bought I generally expect a review in August.

I can't believe I don't have to get any shoes, that is totally a first.

I guess no one is starting a new school here this year which is unusual too.

I have also closed my mind to the fact that DS1 is off to college to do catering for which he will need whites and a set of knives £££££ Grin

4 shirts from Asda, 1 pair of jeans from ASOS, just over £40.
She is insisting on wearing her cheap black pumps on her feet and has a skirt from last year if they complain about her jeans.

redgoat · 16/08/2015 15:20

My DS is just starting secondary school so we've spent £200 on him on uniform so far plus £275 for his bus pass. Still need to get shoes.

Luckily DD only needed a couple of shirts and trousers (that I got when m&s had 20% off) and still needs shoes.

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 16/08/2015 15:25

did teaching double club card and brought all three new tops, one new cardi as change of school/colour one 2 pairs of trousers and a skirt all new undies and socks. Total £1. One needs shoes, one needs trainers.

TheFirstOfHerName · 16/08/2015 15:31

I was feeling pleased with myself for getting DD's entire uniform and sports kit for £65 from second hand uniform shop. She is starting Y7 so we had to get at least one of everything. Total cost if we'd bought it new: £250.

YeOldeTrout · 16/08/2015 20:02

My kids don't grow, handy I suppose!!

Binit · 16/08/2015 20:05

It is my cheapest year so far because last year was my most expensive uniform splurge ever. Everything, apart from shoes, will be forced to last the year to make up for last year's horror spend.

RedCrayons · 16/08/2015 20:09

Envy DTs starting High School. Everything is new. If we had sad face crying emojis there'd be a hundred of them here.

CountryLovingGirl · 16/08/2015 22:02

I am too scared to add up my spends this year. Not too bad for the youngest (girl) who is still in primary (good old Asda for her) but eldest (boy) starts secondary...oh my, what a list of stuff they had to have (and it had to come from the school embroidery shop)! Not got his shoes yet as I am not sure what to get now he is off to secondary (Velcro too babyish??).

knittedyogurt · 17/08/2015 08:51

ha! I made dd gut her bedroom yesterday in search if the missing hockey boot ... it is still lost but she found the pair that she lost in year 7 Grin Unfortunately they are 2 sizes too small so she'll still need to buy a new pair.

clary · 17/08/2015 09:24

countrylovinggirl yes deffo no Velcro in secondary! Lace ups all the way.

Total spend here £14 and very happy - £6 on warm tights for winter and £8 for opaque tights. DD is adamant everything fits and is not tight, expect one pair black school trousers and she doesn't want any more trousers. Shoes still have growth room, although, I suspect won't last long as they are a year old. No school bag needed.

Only thing is she's going into Year 10 so suspect I'll have a whole change to do going into Year 11.

HmmAnOxfordComma · 18/08/2015 23:12

Nothing spent here - going into yr 10.

Blazer 18mths old
Shoes/trainers/boots 12mths old
Trousers/shirts/socks maybe 6mths?
Bag/pencil case 3 yrs old!

This is the cheapest year ever!

Colourme2 · 20/08/2015 07:46

So far it has been the cheapest year since starting school.
Going into Year 9 not needing any new uniform or school shoes.
May need football boots later in the term.

G1veMeStrength · 20/08/2015 07:50

I have decided to do all of Back To School in one day. I'm not thinking about it for another week or so. No one is starting a new school this year and I reckon most things still fit... How hard can it be?! (ask me again next week...)
