What shoes would be good for a girl starting Y7?

We ended up getting these Clarks ones. They look and feel so flimsy compared to Startrite shoes, I really wasn't keen on buying them - but they were the only ones DD liked Hmm

I have 2 DD one has very wide feet at least a H, for her a £50 pair of clarks ladies brogues lasted less than a term my other daughter had the same pair which lasted her a year would have been more if her feet hadn't of grown. we replaced the clarks with DM's these are fantastic and would definitely recommend after a year (minus 1 term) sole is hardly touched shoes in fantastic condition my only disappointment she chose the patent which look lovely but the patent is all peeling off after googling this seems quite common issue surprised at DM. definitely kickers and brogues are the most wanted at their school.

I'm just relieved that I never again have to go through the hell that was buying school shoes for DS, who has feet the approximate shape of swimming flippers -- extra narrow at the ankle, extra wide at the toes.

Wetboots fit him. Not much else does.

Clarks had some nice chunky shoes in the older girls section. A chunky patent t bar, a chunky brogue and something else with a chunky dole. All looked great. Dd unfortunately chose something with a thin sole but at least it's a lace up and covers her foot.

I like these.

Ballet flats stay on the foot by being slightly too small. If feet are still growing, this is very bad for them.

They fall off easily, and offer very little support. They are no good for any kind of running, and not really much good for regular walking, which most DC have to do as part of their school commute.

I was once told off (as an adult) by a chiropodist for wearing them. He advised wearing shoes with a small heel (perhaps 1") and some kind of attachment over the instep (so, laces or a strap).

I thought they (fortunately) had had their day, but it looks like they're still hanging on in there.

AtiaoftheJulii which Kickers did you get? I am having the same problem with my DD but have no independant shops to try round here!

pigsinmud · 18/08/2015 21:57

TeddTess - dd1 has the same. I only bought them at Easter so still fit well. She was quite happy about starting year 7 in them until her year 5 sister got the same pair today. Dd1 then had a flip out about how she needed new shoes, but as her brother (yr 11) needed new shoes too and they were £65 ShockShock, no way could I justify getting her new shoes.

Sorry to revive this thread but having new term shoe disaster (terrible sketchers pumps falling apart already). Which DMs do people get? We have to have black soles and I am struggling to find anything other than then 1461 mono (at £95!!!)

My DD loves her shoes from M&S. Sturdy but with ribbon like laces. Not many sizes left in stock though..
