How do polo shirts and sweatshirts look scruffy ? Think there more practacle for school than blazers etc that's why 2/4 schools where I Live have sweatshirts and one of the schools which has blazers in converting to sweatshirts

Also the governers take parents finances into account ie can wear plain white polo shirt and can wear black teainers and cheap black lace up plimsolls as alternitives to shool shoes

Plimsoles are not supportive footwear.

Mumjane1971 · 15/07/2015 14:52

Well they have been fine for my dd for 3 years and forc ds 2 years

Agree with Lonecatwithkitten, and many others. Blazers tend to last longer than sweatshirts, and leather shoes last longer than canvas plimsolls, so the cost of the two different types of uniforms is approximately equal over the school year. Also if you keep the blazer in good condition, it can be sold on when your child grows out of it (and, by the same logic, you can buy a secondhand one too).

TantrumsAndBalloons · 15/07/2015 16:22

It does look scruffy in my opinion- cheap plimsolls and a cheap sweatshirt.

Lonecatwithkitten · 15/07/2015 16:57

Sweatshirts and polo shirts loose their shape and colour so you get baggy, almost sack like tops in a variety of shades.
As the parent of a child with an ankle injury I value how important supportive shoes are in helping long term injury to improve plimsoles would not have helped.

Mumjane1971 · 15/07/2015 17:06

Think my dd and ds uniform is smart etc sweatshirt polo school trousers and ds plimsoles / dd vans

Well, under bridges, there are of course different standards of what counts as formal...

Mumjane1971 · 15/07/2015 22:06

I think it's formal enough think tie and blazer as school uniform is over the top

OP posts:
Mumjane1971 · 16/07/2015 07:23

Plus it's far more expensive

DD's headteacher has a policy that students should be identifiable as students from X school whenever they are in uniform, therefore they have created blazers, jumpers and polo shirts so that there is always a school badge on show. There are also removable badges showing what year they are in. Blazers must be worn until the summer uniform text arrives, and when the winter uniform arrives we will return to blazers.
Mind you, they also operate a policy whereby next week I shall return DD's outgrown Yr7/8 blazer to the school shop and it will be resold at half price to incoming Yr7s and I shall receive the money for it. So £8 a year for the blazer isn't too bad.

springlamb · 16/07/2015 07:37

Crested not created. The person who created the school blazer must be minted!

Mumjane1971 · 16/07/2015 08:13

I would hate that lol I'm used to just buying 2 sweatshirts a year 3 polo shirts 2 pairs of school trousers and about 2-4?pairs of black lace up plimsoles at £8 for 2 pairs for my ds

Op most people would be really upset if they could only afford £4 a pair shoes for their teenage son. You seem to revel in your bargain.
Their is something not quite right with your posts.

Mumjane1971 · 16/07/2015 11:10

? Most of the kids at my dd and ds school wear them plus there cheap and are school shoes in my eyes

OP posts:
AndNowItsSeven · 16/07/2015 11:32

Yes, but then again the light isn't great under bridges.

ProggyMat · 16/07/2015 11:42

Does anyone know if the 'lone shoe by the side of the road' is more, or less, likely to be a plimsol?

Mumjane1971 · 16/07/2015 12:20

How ? I offer my ds school shoes but he ops for the plimsoles like most of his friends and other kids at his school

There's no way on gods earth a teenager can get by with 2 sweatshirt/2 polos and 2 pairs of 4.99 shoes in a year. And it's only washed once a week?

Sorry but I have 2 teenagers. I swear they go up a size every bloody day. And 4.99 shoes last about 5 minutes. You cannot get 6 months wear out of them.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 16/07/2015 12:28

And they aren't "school shoes" in any sense of the word

AndNowItsSeven · 16/07/2015 12:51

Op are you are distant cousin of the pooh troll , the shoe troll?

AndNowItsSeven · 16/07/2015 12:51

Poo!
