DD sent home to change shoes - missing approx 2 hours of lessons.

Does this seem crazy to you? I appreciate they have strict uniform rules, and I also completely understand that DD should know the rules by now, she's 14.

However, she has been wearing these shoes for 3 months, they are black, as the school requests, but not leather, more of a canvas type. Why not just tell her that she must not be seen in them again, rather than sending her home to change them mid-morning.

She is adamant this hasn't been mentioned before - I was wondering if it was a last straw type approach but apparently not. She has missed maths, which she is struggling at, moved down from top set a few months ago and is keen to get back in it.

Well obviously she did have school shoes that were acceptable, as you don't mention you had to rush out to buy more, so why didn't you notice over 3 months that she wasn't wearing them?

It is simple, if you don't like the rules move your child. Our rules are clear yet we have parents having hissy fits when they cannot be bothered to discipline their Dc. We have a waiting list for every year - if you don't like it move your child. What works for one school wont work for others, it is easy accept the rules and accept them or move!

Dd2school have changed the uniform along with the rules, I have no other school to change to and I have had to buy a new skirt, new shoes and I refuse yo spend more money just because a teacher decides they want me to to satisfy their new rules. Where do they think the money comes from?

I liked the school as it was set out with a simple ethos, to then have that changed thankfully hasn't yet changed the padtrol care but has changed the way the school operates and not for the better.

Thankfully dd is now on her last exam and them will hopefully go to college

I find it odd that they sent her home. At my kids school the students tell either their form tutor or the first member of staff the notices why they are wearing the wrong shoes, they write a note in the students diary & it is fixed the next day. Sending home seems very pointless & ott for a first offence.

I agree with most.
Firstly, why buy her shoes that aren't suitable for school in the first place? Confused
The whole argument about her wearing them for 3 months first is equivalent to a driver caught speeding 3 months down the line telling the courts that (s)he always drove at 35mph in a 30mph zone ~ hardly makes it right.

Most schools have crack downs on certain things across the school year - it might be on uniform one month, timekeeping another, homework another, make up or hairstyles another. You have to have 'fresh campaigns' every now and them to remind people of the rules - as is clear from the fact she's been wearing them - she clearly "forgot" so they need to have another push with uniform this month.

I don't really see how you can complain about the rules being enforced, tbh.

I agree with BackforGood.
You don't know how she responded when challenged about her shoes.
Did she apologise and promise to wear the correct shoes the next day or did she point out that she's been wearing these shoes for 3 months and no one had noticed or, even worse, ''X and Y get away with it, why can't I?''

HairyMcMary · 14/06/2015 20:03

It's potty.

But in loads of schools (DCs included) they can get put in isolation for the day if not wearing correct shoes, and banned from returning until acceptable ones are supplied.

Have you read the uniform policy?
