Emanuel sport on Saturdays

Does anyone know whether sport (Rugby) is compulsory for every boy on a Saturday at Emanuel
DS loves sport and currently does outside of school sport on a Saturday i understand rugby matches happen on Saturdays and you are expected to be free- if he gets picked thats great he'd love it but he's worried about giving up the other sport which he has to sign up/ commit to now and then not getting picked and being left with nothing to play on a Saturday .Advice from anyone with children already there would be great.

Yes, Emanuel does play Rugby most Saturdays both A and B teams, after Feb half term the focus switches to Rugby 7's. You are expected to make your school team a priority.

PS Rugby commitment is less arduous than the Rowing. Cricket season is shorter but fairly time consuming

If he does not make the A or B rugby team, then he won't have Saturday sport. I would sign up for the other sport and wait and see.

Hi any idea how far into term they pick the teams? Assume training starts first weekends for all?
Do cricket matches start after the feb half term- also on Saturdays

Hill form and year 7 play rugby together and they have to attend training for the first few Saturdays. They also train one lunchtime and one afternoon (sometimes two) a week. If I remember they pick teams pretty quickly. Those that don't make teams (they had a C team as well) still play Rugby in games once a week.
They start nets after half term and matches generally start after Easter.

Generally you only play on Saturdays if you are in the A or B team. Both for rugby or cricket. However, in year 6 & 7, for the first few Saturdays of the autumn term it is compulsory for all. Teams are selected relatively quickly for both rugby & cricket. Rugby matches are always in the morning (although 7s can be much longer tournaments). Cricket matches which start at the beginning of the summer term could be either morning or afternoon on a Saturday.

my ds had to give up his club football as their training is on Saturday mornings but in the end he was fine about it as he was fortunate to be picked for rugby & cricket teams.

Thanks tempo football would be what mine is giving up and although only does tag rugby he's general good at sport and fast do hope to get picked for one of the teams! Does your ds do much other after school sport - really hoping there's lots of options for this
